Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Research, the Research Data Analyst serves as the database expert and analyst to support data reporting throughout the department. The Research Data Analyst manages database conceptualization, builds, reporting, auditing, training, etc. research department data. The Research Data Analyst research generates research reports, administrative, financial, time-keeping and operational reports as needed and requested and supports the information technology needs of the department including system support, user training, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. The Research Data Analyst research prepares and creates reports for executive level presentation.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with physicians, clinical research nurses and other research staff to build, update and maintain all department level research databases used in clinical and translational research studies. Databases include externally sponsored, investigator-initiated, and federally funded studies with multi-year follow-up.

  • Builds and maintains databases in REDCap, a HIPAA compliant and highly secure web-based application to capture data for clinical research and create databases and projects. Manage large REDCap databases.

  • Works with clinical researchers at all levels (e.g., clinical research nurses, physicians, residents, fellows) within the clinical research community to create research quality data sets and reports using REDCap and other databases. Helps researchers understand the data available, their project specific data requirements, and meet their data reporting needs.

  • Trains new research personnel in all aspects of database building and maintenance in a manner that streamlines data entry, processing, and analysis. Maintains training logs for individuals trained on each research study.

  • Reviews research records and maintains data logs e.g., training logs, Post-Production Database Changes logs, and Data Rules for data entry in each database, for auditing purposes.

  • Works closely with internal and external research monitors/auditors during the auditing process by providing data cuts for investigator-initiated studies and making corrections in the database and data collection tools based on auditor recommendations.

  • Upholds Institutional Review Board (IRB) restrictions on data use and access to follow HIPAA and PHI rules to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

  • Abstracts data for data analysis purposes and provides formal written documentation of the dataset construction process, including inclusion and exclusion criteria and key definitions of data elements.

  • Serves as the technical expert to assist in optimization efforts to improve data science and standardization processes within REDCap.

  • Data entry of research personnel time logs into Kronos for redistribution of hours to research studies. Maintain copies of signed time logs and PTO for auditing purposes.

  • Run query and reimbursement reports for externally sponsored grants.

  • Demonstrates the delivery of exceptional internal and external customer service behaviors in every aspect of the job

  • Expert database and computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Outlook, REDCap, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently and assume responsibility, excellent organizational skills, ability to meet data deadlines and maintain confidentiality. Maintain data integrity within the

department.

  • Must be able to work in a team consisting of physicians, nurses, technicians, and ancillary hospital staff. Knowledge of FDA Regulations and Good Clinical Practices.

Required

  • Required Associate's Degree
  • 5 years of relevant experience Minimum of (5) years of experience in complex research database creation and management (hardware and software). Required
