Master's degree in Soil Science or closely related field.
Position Summary
This is a Public Service Track Faculty position reporting to the Director of the Agricultural & Environmental Services Laboratories (AESL).
The successful candidate will represent and provide leadership to AESL and work to expand the services provided by AESL to support UGA extension and the CAES. The successful candidate will be expected to develop, administer, collaborate, and coordinate high-quality extension, research, and outreach programs along with playing a proactive role in procuring extramural support for these programs. Other specific responsibilities include management of personnel, performance evaluations, program planning and implementation, and management of laboratory facilities.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Track record of being a strong leader who can align the vision and values of CAES & AESL.
Training and/or background in analytical testing and managing a laboratory.
A strong laboratory background.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Demonstrated success in procuring extramural funding
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders
Familiarity with agricultural extension through academia, government agencies, research organizations, or private sectors
Exemplary communication skills to effectively coordinate within the organization and to academic faculty, CAES administration, county Extension agents, Extension specialists, farmers, the public, and other commercial/industry clients.
Candidates should have the ability to conduct and interpret research and possess good verbal, written, and computer skills

Manage the research and special projects in the Agricultural & Environmental Services Laboratories (AESL). Oversee the Crop Quality laboratory, a unit within the AESL that focuses on analytical support of specialty crops and emerging crops in Georgia
Participate in professional, scholarly, and service activities. Acquire new skills and lead other projects as needed. Collaborate with CAES faculty including County Extension Agents in diagnostic, educational and research projects
Seek external grant-in-aid funding to support relevant research and extension projects
Act as backup to the Director in overseeing daily operations of the Soil, Plant, & Water laboratory (SPW)
Develop a working knowledge and understanding of the Feed & Environmental Water laboratory (FEW) to assist as needed
Stay apprised of AESL's quality assurance programs and assist with the management and oversite of proficiency programs
Assist with hiring, training, and supervision of AESL technicians
Select, develop, and adapt appropriate analytical procedures for testing and coordinate with faculty in the interpretations and recommendations of laboratory results
In conjunction with other faculty, ensure that units within AESL are operated safely with appropriate quality assurance protocols
Promotes public awareness of programs and services of the laboratory
