This position supports the missions of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). The positions provides technical and administrative support and coordination in the areas of biological safety, laboratory safety, and animal care and use to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, sponsor, and accreditation requirements. Allocation of effort needs and is subject to change to meet the needs of the IACUC and IBC.
Works under the limited supervision of employee of higher grade.
May lead/ act as resource for assigned staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Assists the Biological Safety Officer and IACUC manager with the administrative and operational support for the Institutional Biosafety Committee and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
Supports the Biological Safety Officer, IACUC manager, Director of Environmental Health and Safety, and others in maintaining institutional regulatory compliance and accreditation.
Develops, implements, delivers, and tracks training, in coordination with the Biological Safety Officer and IACUC manager.
Performs and participates in the inspection, monitoring and auditing of research projects and facilities to assure compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policy.
Provides guidance and support to faculty, students, administrators, committee members and others related to biological safety, laboratory safety, and animal care and use.
Reviews regulatory submission, research protocols, grant submissions, and technical reports for accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policy.
Participates in the development and review of institutional policies, procedures, guidance, SOPs and protocols.
Maintains institutional records, documentation and databases, composes and/or edits correspondence, minutes, and other documentation, and assists in maintaining website information.
Supports and models an institutional culture of regulatory compliance and safety.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MIMIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
Excellent knowledge of State and Federal codes regarding research and ability to interpret these codes; knowledge of GCP; knowledge of clinical research protocols, principles and procedures with emphasis on study monitoring; knowledge of clinical trials and other clinical research methods such as screening, interviewing, reviewing case report forms and medical records; knowledge of sciences such as biology and psychology; knowledge of experimental design, mathematics, statistics, proficient in the use and application of computer software to facilitate the performance of the job function; knowledge of scientific auditing techniques; knowledge of clinical tasks required for research; ability to communicate effectively (written and oral); good interpersonal skills; strong organizational and project management skills; ability to identify, organize, analyze, evaluate and interpret data; knowledge in accreditation standards and policy formulation; strong knowledge of performance improvement and work redesign principles and methods; ability to work with a variety of disciplines and levels of staff across departments and the health system; ability to work as a team member or independently.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years appropriate clinical research experience with IACUC, IBC, animal research, or laboratory research. Experience working with databases, submission systems, and computer/software applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and SharePoint. Experience developing, interpreting, and reviewing research documentation such as protocols, regulatory submission, and technical reports
Substitution: Certification as a Clinical Research Associate or equivalent with four (4) years of appropriate practical clinical research monitoring experience.
Experience developing and implementing policies
Experience creating and delivering training programs
Experience performing regulatory audits and monitoring
Experience interpreting and applying the regulatory requirements related to the use of biological agents at a departmental or institutional level
Experience interpreting and applying the regulatory requirements related to the use of research animals at a departmental or institutional level
Experience in an academic research or higher education environment
SCHEDULE: 40 hour work week, Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm, 1 hour unpaid meal break.
FULL TIME MINIMUM EQUIVALENT SALARY: $72,238
