Job Description Summary

The search will remain open until the position has been filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by October 31, 2024. Applications received after October 31, 2024 may be reviewed depending on search progress and needs but are not guaranteed full consideration.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Work under the direction of faculty investigators to program and analyze data to assess causal effects in network studies of HIV prevention. Assist in developing and implementing new methods at the intersection of causal inference, network science, and missing data analysis, performing analyses of project studies, documenting analysis code, managing, cleaning, and archiving project study datasets, writing project reports, analyzing post-agent-based modeling output for the project, and presenting results to the study team and external collaborators. Liaise with team members and collaborators and have project-related responsibilities across multiple studies. Additional responsibilities can include helping with the organization of the team meetings, trainings, and workshops; preparation of the manuscripts, presentations, and posters; and updating the content of the team website.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with coding and implementing methods developed in the project and developing user-friendly software and documentation for the approaches, including statistical simulation studies, post-agent-based modeling analyses, and web-based applications.

Analyze three network data sets from HIV prevention studies and clustering using R or Python software, and quantify and interpret results from different statistical methods, including generalized linear mixed models and generalized estimating equations.

Contribute to methodological and substantive literature reviews for the project.

Report and present study findings at team meetings, written reports, posters, tutorials, and manuscripts.

Support the team in organizing team meetings, trainings and workshops to disseminate project methods.

Write statistical software code for causal analysis in networks and apply code to the agent-based modeling output.

Clean and manage the network databases for the project at URI.

Disseminate code via the team GitHub and/or R CRAN packages.

When appropriate and permitted by the collaborating study teams, develop (clean, prepare, archive, etc.) and disseminate public versions of the study data sets used in this project.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Utilize project management software in working with project team members to organize progress on project objectives.

Organize team meetings and prepare meeting minutes for review by the PI and team.

Perform other duties as assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, server computers, printers; LaTeX, word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, database management, SAS, Python, R, or other statistical software.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  1. Master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, population-based health research, statistics, data science, computational social science research, or related field.

  2. Minimum of two years of data science, analytics, and/or statistics experience.

  3. Demonstrated experience in the use of R, Python, SAS, or other statistical software.

  4. Demonstrated statistical analysis experience (i.e., causal inference, networks, longitudinal data, clustered data, missing data, or data from HIV or substance use studies).

  5. Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills.

  6. Demonstrated ability to work both as part of a team and independently.

  7. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

  8. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

  9. Demonstrated ability to write effectively in scientific formats.

  10. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED:

  1. Minimum one year of research experience in public health, population-based health research, statistics, data science, and/or social science research with a health focus.

  2. Demonstrated experience performing data analyses and software/program development.

  3. Demonstrated experience in the use of Python statistical software.

  4. Demonstrated familiarity with causal inference or substance use research.
