Duration: Consulting Position, 12 Months

Location: West Sacramento, California

Job Title: Research Associate Specialist

Shift: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm (Part time (20 hours per week) with a flexible work scheduled offered)

Scope of Position:

The successful candidate will support the Microbial Research Technologies team by assisting in the preparation of standardized and custom media and reagents. The candidate should be comfortable working with and without automated platforms to assist in media production. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring proper usage, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment such as but not limited to, pH meters, analytical balance, biosafety cabinets, and bioreactors. Strong customer focus and solid interpersonal skills are essential to establish effective internal/external cross-functional relationships to accomplish goals such as on-time delivery and maintenance of general stock media.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a variety of media and reagents following written established protocols with a high level of efficiency, organization, and productivity

  • Maintain inventory of stock media for general supply

  • May assist in the development, design, or improvement of media recipes and operating protocols in conjunction with supervisor

  • Maintain meticulous records and batch sheets via electronic notebook, LIMS database, or other approved record keeping system

  • Assist in the routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment

  • Operation of laboratory equipment and automation platforms such as balance, autoclave, pipettes, biosafety cabinets, and media jet automated plate pourer

  • Perform limited troubleshooting and calibration of laboratory instruments

  • Support biological waste decontamination and disposal as needed

  • Assist in the management of media requests in a LIMS database including data entry and data retrieval

  • Compliance with all regulations

Required Experience and

Skills:
  • AAS degree with 2 years experience or BS/BA degree with 0 years of experience in Fermentation, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Microbiology is preferred

Duration: Consulting Position, 7 Months Location: West Sacramento, California Job Title: Research Specialist Shift: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm Scope of Position: We are seeking a multidisciplinary research specialist with a strong interest in driving Biologics research through working with microbes and their genomes. A successful candidate will work with bioinformatics scientists and microbiologists to support a collaboration project. The candidate should be proficient in microbiology or related fields with an interest in agriculture. This candidate will work about 30% in lab and 70% in-silico. Day to Day Responsibilities: * Propagate microorganisms in solid and liquid formats. * Determine appropriate medium to ensure growth and survivability of microorganisms. * Perform cryopreservation of microorganisms. * Leverage robotics and other standard laboratory equipment to execute tasks. * Compliance with biosafety and best practices. * Liaise with Shipping and Receiving to ensure delivery of biological research material to collaborator. * Perform strain retrieval and propagation on demand including management of database entries and sample tracking. * In-silico * Work with terabytes of next gen sequence data. * Manage sequencing runs from the data side. * Perform genome quality analyses. * Run an existing genome annotation pipeline. * Participate in a multi-disciplinary team of scientists to suggest genomics-based solutions. * Occasionally development and implement algorithms to process bacterial information. * Maintain reproducible documentation of analyses and a laboratory notebook. Required Experience and Skills: * MS or BS in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Genomics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline. * At least 2 years of experience programming or scripting with a language such as Python, Perl, more preferred. * At least 1 year using Linux/Unix command line tools for genomics or file management. * Experience handling next gen sequence datasets. * Good understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and some biochemistry of bacteria and fungi.
