Research Associate

Randstad in partnership with Bayer Crop Science located in San Diego is now hiring for a Research Associate with hands on experience in microbial research. If you are the selected candidate for this role, you will work with our client who is shaping the world of agriculture with breakthrough innovation for the benefit of farmers, consumers and our planet.

This is a unique opportunity to work with leading edge technology and talented cross functional scientists to deliver the very best microbes benefiting crop plants. We are seeking a Research Associate with expertise in microbiology including microbial enrichment, high-throughput screening, physiological assays, molecular typing and genomics. As the selected candidate you will be a member of a team that support microbial discovery of biological solutions to improving agronomic food production in a sustainable manner. Team members, including genomic and data scientists, geneticists, pathologists, plant breeders, work together and to discover innovative microbial solutions for agronomic food production.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to directly support Bayer Corp Science???s global Biotechnology pipeline. On offer is a key position in the identification and selection of product candidates. We are looking for someone with the talent and motivation to be successful.


Develop and apply innovative and effective microbial enrichments for discovery of novel microbial mode-of-action beneficial to crop plants.

Apply and improve high-throughput automation methods for microbial discovery and molecular screening.

Apply and improve data analytics, using bioinformatic and other data analytic tools like APIs to better inform microbial discovery strategies.

Ensure and improve quality of microbial discovery through data stewardship, quality control, documentation and strain archiving.

Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM


Required skills/Experience:

  • A minimum of a B.Sc. in microbiology or a closely related discipline.

  • A minimum of 6 mos. of laboratory experience in an academic (outside of coursework) or industrial laboratory.

  • Outstanding analytical skills.

  • Ability to work effectively interdisciplinary fields.

  • A decisive, innovative and creative personality.

Desired skills/Experience:

  • Proven expertise studying microbial communities through metagenomics, microbial enrichment and microbial diversity.

  • Experience with R-shiny and Python code.

  • Experience with plant microbial interactions
