What's in it for you?

As a member of the protein purification team, you will be responsible for the purification of a diverse assortment of proteins varying from untagged proteins to fusion proteins and antibodies. The candidate will also be responsible for providing protein chemistry support including production, labeling and characterization of reagents for the R&D department as well as other groups in the organization. What will you do?

  • Purify and characterize fusion proteins and antibodies for the R&D pipeline in both small and large scale amounts

  • Perform stability and pre-formulation studies on purified proteins

  • Generate and provide protein reagents to other departments in the company and to collaborators

  • Present reports and results at various meetings, both internally and externally to collaborators and at conferences

What are we looking for?

  • B.S. in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related fields with 1-3 years of relevant protein purification and/or characterization experience that could include a co-op or internship

  • Demonstrated proficiency in various techniques of protein purification such as affinity, ion exchange and gel filtration chromatography

  • Experience in purification of antibodies and receptor-fusion proteins is highly desirable

  • Experience with protein characterization techniques such as SDS-PAGE, IEF/cIEF, Western blot, SEC, DSF and RP-HPLC is a plus

  • Experience with protein labeling is a plus

  • Efficient time management and ability to work on several projects simultaneously are essential. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of people is a must

CDoT is committed to developing and applying novel drug discovery approaches and technologies to address critical unmet medical needs not being tackled elsewhere. The successful candidate will share this commitment and be part of a multidisciplinary team that drives innovation to solve therapeutic challenges. The primary role for this position is to enable therapeutic discovery through the expression, purification and characterization of therapeutic protein targets. The successful candidate will have multiple experiences in the expression and purification of recombinant proteins from bacterial systems. Experience in the use of insect expression systems is advantageous, as is experience in molecular biology. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES * Executing and improving protocols to clone and express recombinant proteins * Purifying tagged or native proteins by FPLC (affinity, ion exchange, hydrophobic and size exclusion chromatography) * Characterization of proteins, protein-compounds, and protein-protein complexes using biophysical methods * Initiating and completing routine procedures independently and efficiently * Interpreting experimental outcomes and proposing next steps * Troubleshooting technical and scientific problems * Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment independently * Documenting work and effectively presenting results * Working in partnership with other team members to best achieve results QUALIFICATIONS * B.S. in Biochemistry, Biophysics or a related life science field with at least 2 years of post-degree research experience in an industrial or academic setting * Experience in bacterial protein expression required, insect cell expression is advantageous * Experience in recombinant protein purification through multiple techniques (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion) required * Experience with molecular biology and vector construction preferred * A proven record of successful interaction with project team members, external customers or vendors required The successful candidate will be a results-focused, team-oriented bench scientist able to excel in a fast-track environment across multiple projects. (S)he must be accountable, self-motivated, detail-oriented and exhibit problem solving skills. In addition, the successful candidate will be a clear and effective communicator, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills to enable collaboration with team members.
