Summary:

Responsible for using human factors tools and techniques to identify and address the needs and requirements of target user populations and use these data to develop human empowering solutions. Primary activities include literature searches and reviews, human factors analyses, field and laboratory data collection and analysis, analysis of collected data and information given a project's expressed goals and presentation of findings/results to help inform project decisions. Ideal candidates have a keen attention to detail, are analytical and can easily recommend actions based upon gathered data/facts. This is not a remote position.

What You Need:

  • B.S. or M.S. with 2 years' experience preferred in Industrial Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, or related field.

  • Ability to perform assigned technical tasks and activities in a timely manner as requested.

  • Experience in laboratory procedures, testing and research activities; human participant research experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of and experience with commonly used concepts, practices, standards, and procedures within the field of human factors engineering.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple duties at one time.

  • Requires proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office including, but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet design and maintenance, and creating presentations.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and logically.

  • Good interpersonal skills, including ability to adapt and work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and show personal initiative.

  • Good planning and organizational skills.

What You'll Be Doing:

Support small and large research projects involving some or all of the following:

  • Exercise considerable resourcefulness, initiative, and decisiveness in planning and executing the details of human participant experiments.

  • Maintain compliance with study protocols, standard operating procedures and guidelines when conducting human participant research studies.

  • Identify and report potential problems or deviations in the study activities, and/or inconsistencies in study protocols or standard operating procedures and take action as appropriate to resolve identified issues.

  • Assist with preparation of study protocols, test plans, and data collection procedures, including data handling, protection, cleaning, and analysis.

  • Ensure laboratory equipment are appropriately set-up, calibrated, and collecting valid data.

  • Maintain accurate records of study protocol data during study sessions in laboratory notebooks and/or electronic systems in accordance with applicable study protocols and standard operating procedures.

  • Support evaluation and interpretation of experimental results.

  • Assist in preparing technical and progress reports, summaries and quantitative/ qualitative analyses of assigned research projects.

  • Contribute to writing manuscripts for publication.

  • Conduct literature reviews related to study research questions/hypotheses.

  • Acquire and maintain an understanding of the evolving field of Human Factors.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Promote products and services at various customer locations and functions.

  • Perform or assist with any additional assignments as required.

  • Physical requirements involve performing general office activities.

  • Position requires a minimum amount of local, overnight and extended travel.

Summary: The Senior Industrial Engineer will lead development of a portfolio of eXtended Reality (XR) R&D efforts, while mentoring team members and identifying portfolio expansion opportunities. This role will also perform functions to identify, develop, and track proposals to fund XR projects. What You Need: * BS, Masters or Ph.D in Industrial Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, HCI, or related field. * Minimum 6 years experience in project engineering with a user-centered design focus OR human factors/systems engineering in research and development. Does not require XR experience. * Requires strong project management and networking skills. What You Will Be Doing: * Provide technical and strategic leadership for the development and performance of eXtended Reality (XR) solutions and associated intellectual properties. * Secure funding for XR work and ensure funded efforts have a strong business case. * Responsible for leading the development of XR solutions by researching human performance optimization constructs, eliciting user needs, establishing user-centered requirements and conceptual designs, and working with DI's XR ISD, XR UI/UX designers, and XR system developers to fully develop the solutions. * Responsible for the implementation of assessment tools to be integrated as competency measures in XR solutions. * Provide direction, guidance, and delegation of tasks to teams on various XR projects; develop project schedules, resource requirements, and timelines, delineate constraints/prerequisites, and maintain team productivity on project goals and objectives. * Manage project risk by identifying, quantifying and monitoring potential threats to XR projects. * Design and execute studies to ensure the usability of XR solutions, analyze data, and provide actionable recommendations to the project team. * Conduct independent research to validate the efficacy (e.g., training effectiveness) of XR solutions, assimilate results, prepare written technical reports, follow-on proposals, and publications. * Communicate project status to key customers in relevant functional and technical areas; ensure customer needs are met through resource allocation, project planning, and execution. * Communicate project status to DI management and other project teams verbally and through various documentation and presentations, including project schedules, proposals, risk mitigation plans, transition plans, and related concerns and issues. * Maintain knowledge pertaining to DI's strategic direction, goals, and objectives and align XR projects appropriately.
