Duties

Assist Scientists in performing experiments. Primary responsibilities will include performing mammalian cell culture, cell-based assays, signal transduction assays, immunochemistry, microscopy, image analysis, protein purification, activity and protein assays, various microbiology techniques, and general lab duties.

  • Mammalian cell culture and cell biology

  • SDS-PAGE, protein function/stability and enzymatic assays

  • Column chromatography

  • Immunochemistry (ELISA, bio-layer interferometry, IHC, etc.)

  • General lab duties, buffer preparation, notebook documentation

  • Protein purification

  • Tissue culture

  • Protein conjugation and characterization

  • Buffer preparation

  • SDS-PAGE and Western Blotting

Skills

Candidate should have a minimum of a B.A./B.S. in a science field (preferably cell biology or biochemistry). The ideal candidate will have working experience in cell culture, histology, bioassays, and protein purification. The candidate will be comfortable with basic chemical principles and calculations. Candidate should also be fastidious with respect to cleanliness and organization.

Education

  • The ideal B.A./B.S./M.S. candidate will have 4+ years of related industry or academic research experience.

  • Proficient in protein purification (familiarity with Akta/UNICORN) and biochemical techniques is critical. Experience with virus (AAV) or virus-like partical purification, tissue culture, cell-based assays and/or IHC is beneficial.

  • Various experience with protein analytical techniques such as: spectrophotometry, Bradford, BCA, SDS-PAGE, gel staining, western blotting, ELISA, enzymatic assays, BLI (Octet), SPR (Biacore), DLS, HPLC, thermal shift, among others is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.

The Gene Therapy Group at BioMarin Pharmaceutical is currently recruiting exceptional individuals at the Research Associate/ Senior Research Associate level. Successful candidates will join a dynamic interdisciplinary group which will develop and commercialize the major gene therapeutics for several genetic diseases. Applicants should have a Bachelors or Master's degree in a relevant field, be experts in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry. Experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques and purification are particularly desirable. Viral-based vector biology, virology, gene therapy, protein expression analysis are desirable knowledge/experience areas but not required. Teamwork, individual-initiative, and meticulous recordkeeping using electronic data capture systems (ELN) are essential. SUMMARY: * This position is to support vector application development projects. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Cell culture based assays and vector production * Molecular biology – cloning, sequence analysis,NGS, PCR, qPCR * Protein biology/ chemistry – ELISA, Western blot * Execute and document laboratory procedures and experiments with great attention to detail Desired Skills: * Assay development experience * Cell culture work – multiple cell lines * Molecular biology – DNA isolation, primer design, PCR, Gibson assembly, nucleic acid purification * Protein biology/ chemistry – ELISA, Western * Strong organization skills and ability to multitask efficiently in a dynamic environment * Gene therapy experience is a plus but not required.
