Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate II for NJMS- Public Health Research Institute Center. Under the direction of faculty member, works on funded research projects involving the development of effective point of-care detection assays for active TB infection and disease. Will also be responsible for record keeping, writing and reviewing laboratory SOPs, training personnel, writing reports and manuscripts for publication, and contributing to the writing of grant proposals to further fund this work.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Performs biochemical and immunological experiments to investigate the chemical and immunological properties of LAM present in various body fluids of TB patients.

  • This information will then be used to develop more sensitive and specific point-of-care assays to readily detect these biomarkers as diagnostics of active TB infection and disease.

  • Keeps up-to-date with technical and theoretical knowledge related to humoral responses to microbial pathogens;

  • Generates, compiles and presents experimental data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity.

  • Presents scientific/research contents in institutional, national and international forums;

  • Contributes to writing of scientific manuscripts, grant applications and IRB and IBC applications and reports.

  • Provides support for the daily operations of the Lab, including training/supervising technicians and junior fellows.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Must have a Ph.D. in Biology
  • OR a Master Degree plus three years of relevant experience in viral immunology and molecular biology

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be highly motivated, self-starter with enthusiasm and team spirit for research.

  • Should be qualified and have active experience working with pathogenic mycobacteria under BSL-3 conditions.

  • Candidate should be highly organized.

Preferred Qualifications

  • preference for candidates with experience in culturing and cloning monoclonal antibodies from human B cells.

Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position will require ability to perform standard laboratory work for 5 full days per week, and will include BSL-1 BSL-2 and BSL-3 studies.
