The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.

Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate II for the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies. Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Research Associate II is responsible for the conduct of highly specialized and technical research in the area of tobacco. Responsible for assisting in the management of tobacco research studies, including design, analysis, and reporting.

Among the key duties of this position are the following;

  • Performs various research activities related to tobacco; may conduct independently or as assigned specialized research for a particular project.

  • Participates in the development and selection of research methodology and instrumentation and coordination of qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the Center.

  • Assists in the conducting of tobacco focused research and development regarding the analytical and instrumentation functions, participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revision where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.

  • Assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in a relevant science, or a Master's Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.

  • Experience with qualitative research methods such as content analysis.

  • Experience with SAS and SPSS statistical software and Qualtrics or Survey Monkey software.

  • Additional related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
