Summary

The Research Associate II position will support the Gastrointestinal Oncology Translational Research Laboratory under the current principal investigator Dr. Jenny Permuth. This position will be responsible for tasks to support projects funded through grant funding and industry alliance agreements.

Position Highlights:

Be a part of a team that leads active translational research programs in GI Oncology. This position will have ample opportunities for authorship and other documentable career-enhancing activities.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A successful candidate will have experience in advanced molecular biology and cell culture techniques.

  • Experience with animals (patient-derived xenograft models, orthotopic models and maintenance of a murine breeding colony) is required for this role.

  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, and coordinate assignments.

  • Should have excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Is expected to exhibit individual initiative, work independently; and be technically proficient and accurate.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains laboratory equipment in a clean and working order, including coordinating instrument standardization documented by written report.

  • Reorders stock laboratory supplies when depleted under appropriate supervision.

  • Responsible for the preparation of tissues and samples for study under appropriate supervision.

  • Follows infection control techniques for preparation, handling and disposal of all samples.

  • Operates, calibrates and performs routine maintenance on specialized equipment.

  • Collects, annotates, and permanently records raw experiment data and documents findings in a timely manner.

  • Performs data analysis, participates in meetings with PI and other team members to evaluate and interpret the validity of data, and evaluates laboratory procedures.

  • Under appropriate direction and guidance, performs research and related support activities including, (a) implementation and management of research projects; (b) preparation of drafts of regulatory protocols and reports, manuscripts. (c) collation and presentation of results including appropriate visualizations.

  • Interacts closely with investigators and their collaborators in the GI department and across Moffitt.

  • Initiates and ensures compliance with applicable safety procedures.

  • May monitor lab expenses and assist with budgetary responsibilities and may instruct and assist students and laboratory staff, as requested.

  • Assist in training new staff in areas of expertise and serve as a resource to other lab members.

  • May supervise research trainees as applicable.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required in a science field

  • One year of hands-on research experience.
