BS, MS, or PhD degree in either Biology, Chemistry, or related fields strongly preferred Must be independent in developing cell and molecular biology assays. Demonstrated ability to conduct defined research protocols independently, with excellent troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work well in a team including medical residents, undergraduate students, and other lab personnel. Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills. Previous experience writing scientific publications.

Demonstrated proficiency in data presentation software including Photoshop, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience performing DNA, RNA, and protein analysis, microscopy, flow cytometry, and mammalian cell culture. Specific techniques include DNA isolation, genotyping, primer design for PCR, multiplex PCR, Western blot analysis, RNA isolation, aseptic technique, in situ hybridization.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Principle Investigator, perform scientific work in a biomedical laboratory. Work hours are flexible but not to exceed 16 hours/week.

The employee will develop, optimize and perform molecular biology assays for DNA, RNA, and protein analysis. Work with cells and tissues is required. Primary job location will be on the West LA VA campus, with occasional travel to UCLA Westwood campus.

The employee must pass VA background clearance, online educational training, and human resources registration in order to perform work on the VA campus.

What skills do I need to land this role? * BA or BS degree in quantitative fields like Statistics, Math, Social Science etc. A graduate degree in a relevant field is a plus. * At least 2-3 years of hands on experience with consumer research, preferably at a market research supplier or a subscription services company. * Must thrive in a lean, hands-on, and fast-paced environment.
