This position supports research activity by assisting in planning and effectively conducting experiments; recording and analyzing data. Ensures efficient daily operation of laboratories and/or field locations.

This position will assist in the planning, management and organization of breeding activities for corn, soybean, and wheat breeding programs, the execution of other research activities as well as data collection and trial execution efforts for a multi-function research station.

  • Assist in the execution of breeding, testing and pathology programs at a multi-function research station.

  • Operate planting, spraying, harvest and other farm equipment

  • Maintain and improve the efficiency and safety of daily work place operations.

  • Manage team resources: employees, equipment, discretionary funds, etc.

  • Collect data and assess data quality.

  • The Research Associate will be expected to contribute to the joint success of all research groups at the New Holland Research Center.

  • May organize and direct work of other employees.

  • May serve on teams appropriate to specific research project.

  • May be requested to assist in conducting experiments at other research sites, laboratory areas, or groups.

  • Position coordinates activities through collaboration with the field team, breeding team, and other research colleagues. Completing program objectives requires leading and negotiating decisions with competing interests and priorities.

  • Program plans are often challenged by changes in weather. Adjusting to change and implementing a new plan requires flexibility, understanding of crop development, effective resource management, and effective program management skills.

  • Position will be responsible to target continual improvements and efficiency gains in research processes.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture or scientific related field plus 2-4 years industry related experience required or Master's degree and up to 2 years industry related experience preferred.

  • Demonstrates excellent communication/personal interaction skills to foster teamwork, enhance a positive work environment, and effectively develop strong internal and external working relationships with a diverse group of people

  • Strong experience and skills with computers and data management.

  • Strong aptitude to operate and maintain various field equipment including electronics, GPS systems and data collection systems.

  • Demonstrates skills in leadership, operational safety, supervision and time management.

  • Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds

  • Must be capable of working in varying ergonomic and environmental conditions for extended periods of time.

  • Willing to work additional hours/weekends during peak periods. Travel to offsite locations with occasional overnight stays will be expected.

  • Must have or be able to obtain a commercial pesticide applicators license(s).

The mission of the Insectary is to efficiently supply a wide range of high-quality insects and nematodes to research scientists in support of product discovery and development. It matters to us, and it matters to you! * Production and maintenance of various nematode & insect cultures. * Maintain host plants in lab/Greenhouse for colony and testing needs. * Contribute to developing techniques in rearing of new species. * Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to help in insect management research. * Interfacing with researchers, and having strong customer focus, and time management skills. * Conducting experiments in laboratories, growth chambers, and greenhouses. * Writing SOPs, troubleshooting nematode/insect colony issues, colony data collection and presenting summaries of technical results. * Developing and implementing safety practices to ensure safety in the work environment. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Experience in insect rearing and performing laboratory bioassays is a plus. What do you bring to the table? * Bachelors in Entomology / Biological Sciences or related area. * Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills. * Self-motivated, organized researcher, and supporting company objectives. * Strong record of accomplishment and reliability to deliver superior results. * Insect/Nematode rearing experience is required. * Demonstrated ability to work in teams, manage and prioritize activities, to identify and rapidly resolve problems is necessary for success. * Organizational skills that allow for handling multiple tasks simultaneously are necessary. * Knowledge on PPQ permitting and biological compliance. * Ability to use innovative approaches to meet the needs of customers is critical.
