Job Description:

Plans, organizes and conducts highly independent research upon the approval of the principal investigator. Designs, tests and evaluates methods and protocol for research projects, analyzes, summarizes and organizes collected data.

Together, with the principal investigator, leads manuscripts and publishes results of investigations in peer-review journals. Along with the principal investigator, writes and submits grants for research on varied topics of ecology and conservation. Under the guidance of the principal investigator, organizes field work settings and coordinates activities for data collection in national and international settings. Purchase and/or recommend purchase of new equipment for research projects; under the direction of the principal investigator, generally responsible for the scientific operations in laboratory and field work; may supervise laboratory and field personnel.

Duties Include:

50% Summarizes completed protocols and studies; writes scientific articles and manuscripts for publication and presentation.

20% Collects, curate, prepare and analyzes samples, specimens and other types of data (acoustic, photographic) collected in field work.

20% Collates and analyzes complex ecological data. Maintains databases and curates data.

10% Assists in laboratory management tasks, such as the selection and purchasing of laboratory and field equipment, and organization and execution of field campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Ecology with 2 years experience with statistical analysis of big data, data curation and database maintenance. Proficient with coding (R) and geographic information systems.

Experience with phylogenetic analyses. Field experience in the Neotropics. Spoken Spanish required for fieldwork. Proficient with coding (R) and geographic information systems.

Job Competencies required:

Proficient with Knowledge of scientific principles, research design and research protocols, including analysis and collection of samples; Ability to learn new analytical skills, as applicable to the position; Ability to communicate research findings to different target public (researchers, non-scientific community).

Advanced in Ability to work as part of a team; Ability to perform field and laboratory work, as applicable to the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Ecology with statistical analysis of big data, data curation and database maintenance. Proficient with coding (R) and geographic information systems.

Experience with phylogenetic analyses. Field experience in the Neotropics, setting permanent plots for plant and/or animal monitoring. Spoken and written Spanish (required for fieldwork and to prepare dissemination materials. Proficient with coding (R) and geographic information systems.
