We are looking to hire a Research Assistant (level will depend on candidate#s experience) in to the Hernandez Lab. The Hernandez lab seeks to define the contribution of thyroid hormone overexposure to the developmental and inherited but non-genetic (epigenetic) etiology of complex endocrine and neurological disorders in humans.
These may include obesity, infertility, autism, schizophrenia and attention deficit, hyperactive disorder and others. The lab mostly uses transgenic and pharmacological mouse models and that a number of technical approaches including #behavioral testing, genome wide gene expression profiling and bioinformatics, #qPCR,# molecular epigenetics, endocrine physiology endpoints, metabolic profiling, biochemical determinations, tissue and animal imaging, histology, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence and primary cell culture. # Position Summary Conducts a variety of laboratory procedures under the general supervision of the principal investigator or the PI#s designee. Assist biological and medical scientists in laboratories.
Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, monitor experiments, make observations, and calculate and record results. Must be able to recognize problems or deviations in experimental conditions and notify appropriate personnel. Masters routine techniques and procedures relevant to overall goals of the lab.
Position availability is directly related to grant funding. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Education: Bachelor#s degree in a relevant field.
License/Certifications: N/A Experience: 2 + years of relevant experience. (Candidates with less experience will be considered) Demonstrated ability above that of a Research Assistant II. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and work effectively. Visual acuity, manual dexterity, math skills and a scientific acumen are required. #
