What we want
Under general supervision, the Research Assistant conducts research studies and maintaining records. This role provides skilled administrative and managerial support in research. You will plan and direct certain phases in a research project. The Research Assistant assists lab members in research, including independently designing and performing experiments. You will work in a collaborative research environment.
Required Education and Experience:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment
Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position
Preferred Qualifications:
BS in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or similar scientific fields
Molecular and cellular biology laboratory experience
BSL2 laboratory experience
Flow cytometry, cell culture, qPCR
Understanding of molecular and cellular biology, including appropriate laboratory assays
Ability to work independently and keep laboratory records
Responsibilities:
Research Experiments
Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various research projects.
Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research. These experiments will included maintenance of cell culture and performance of standard molecular and cellular biology assays
Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research..
Data Analysis
Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
Evaluates and summarizes experimental results.
Analysis programs may include excel, R, graphpad, FlowJo, and/or SPSS.
Writing
Record keeping
Keeps detailed records of data, including data sharing best practices-compliant research logs in an electronic lab notebook.
Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.
Laboratory management
Helps to maintain financial accounts related to research projects, including placing and receiving orders for laboratory equipment and consumable reagents.
Work to ensure the laboratory is clean and waste is appropriately treated for removal.
Performs other duties as assigned.
