Required Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years college-level course work completed in the field of psychology, cognitive science, social science or child development.
  • 6-months to 1-year of related work experience working with children and/or working with educational, language, or clinical assessments

SKILLS

  • Experience working with children

  • Experience with research or clinical practice related to cognitive development

  • ASL Novice

  • Ability to troubleshoot, find solutions, problem solve, persevere through complex tasks, and communicate well

  • Teamwork skills required to work with a team of investigators, research staff, and undergraduate RAs

  • Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Outlook and Calendly for scheduling; Microsoft Excel and RedCap are required

  • Current driver's license for transportation to off-site lab

Department/College Description

The newly-founded Perception, Language and Attention in Youth (PLAY) Lab's aim is to understand how early sensory experiences shape our visual, cognitive, and language abilities later in life. We study how deaf and hearing children learn through visual sign language, with the goal of understanding human cognition and learning more broadly. We compare behaviors and abilities of deaf and hearing people -- across all ages -- who use signed or spoken language.

Job Summary

The NTID Perception, Language & Attention in Youth (PLAY) Lab is seeking Research Assistant, to administer questionnaire surveys and child assessments cognitive-behavioral research studies.

RA would assist with scheduling parents' testing appointments and greet them as they arrive at the lab with their child and follow test assessments provide subject payments to parents. RA ensures all online consent forms and questionnaires have been completed prior to testing. RA administers standardized cognitive or language assessments, to children, ages 2 to 8 years of age. RA is the primary person responsible for scoring and tracking data. RA may also help with other experimental tasks that record reaction time, accuracy, reading or sign comprehension, or gaze patterns while watching videos. Another project involves filming children while engaged in play behaviors at off-campus locations. The RA is expected to help coordinate scheduling for these visits and administer questionnaires and assessments, and help with data collection and analysis.
