Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) clinicians are dedicated to providing the best professional care, delivered with compassion, for all patients. The Research Assistant provides a wide variety of moderately complex to complex technical support for a research lab. Reporting to the Private Investigator, as well as to the other lab members assigned by the Private Investigator, the Research Assistant has additional responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives.

  • Orders necessary lab equipment as required.

  • Conducts animal breeding and general maintenance of the lab.

  • Processes cell culture and other lab techniques as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 1 - 2 years of relevant experience

  • Familiarity with day to day assistance in the laboratory such as ordering reagents, and keeping inventories

  • Ability to carry out the laboratory techniques such as Western blotting, PCR, and RT-PCR

  • Knowledge of tissue culture techniques

  • Experience in handling rodents and maintaining breeding colonies as well as collecting tissues and their processing

Requirements Project Assistant II, Tobacco Cessation Projects, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center – Georgetown University Medical Center The Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center of Georgetown University has an opening for an experienced tobacco treatment specialist to work on two NCI-funded smoking cessation interventions: one with individuals undergoing lung cancer screening (the LSTH program), and one with individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer (the STAR clinical program). The TTS will conduct a telephone-based and in person smoking cessation interventions. Additional responsibilities include participant assessments and data management. Duties include but are not limited to: * Conduct telephone interviews with research participants undergoing lung cancer screening. * Conduct telephone counseling for smoking cessation with research participants undergoing lung cancer screening. * Conduct face to face and telephone-based smoking cessation counseling with individuals diagnosed with cancer for the STAR program. * Conduct data management and data entry tasks for the STAR clinical program. * Mail materials to participants. * Assist the PI in developing the smoking cessation protocol for Lombardi cancer patients. * Assist the PI and co-investigators in talking with Lombardi and GUMC clinicians to seek patient referrals to the program. Qualifications * Bachelor's or Master's degree in psychology, public health, or another social science is required * Must have undergone a training program for tobacco treatment specialists and have at least three years of experience serving as tobacco treatment specialist * Prior experience working on behavioral tobacco-related research or clinical projects * Fluent Spanish is preferred but not required Current Georgetown Employees: If you currently work at Georgetown University, please exit this website and login to GMS (gms.georgetown.edu) using your Net ID and password.
