Job Summary

Participates in a planned research project by performing research protocols. Works independently and self-directed while providing supervision and technical training to various staff.

The Research Assistant will need a specialized education in the biological sciences or physiology or clinical experience. This role is required to consistently

exercise discretion and judgment in execution, interpretation of experiments, and of data derived. This position will involve extensive work with laboratory animal models and providing independent medical management for these animals on a routine basis .

Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays and intervals of 13 hour shifts

In this role you will be working on a study with Dr. Flake's group:

Dr. Flake was the Director of Fetal Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Michigan before joining the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at CHOP in 1996. Today, his lab is focused on developing a novel therapy for extreme prematurity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs lab tests which require the analysis of results and interpretation of methods

  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples as agreed with PI

  • Plans and develops specific research protocols and procedures

  • Develops & troubleshooting new techniques and ideas

  • Composes methods and sets-up protocols accurately under the direction of the program director or senior scientist, modifies methods and protocols when required

  • Formulates and performs complex lab experiments and analyzes & reports the data

  • Presents & discusses work at weekly lab meetings

  • Prepares laboratory reagents and monitors and maintains inventory

  • Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log books and lab notebooks

  • Maintains laboratory equipment, safety procedures and compliance records

  • Researches journal, white papers and other scientific publications for pertinent information

  • Prepares data for publication or presentation at national/international symposia

  • May be called upon to present at national symposia

  • Supervises junior members of laboratory.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, 4-6 years scientifically relevant experience required

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • Master's degree preferred, 1-3 years scientifically relevant experience

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Proficient in various research and/or analytical techniques required

How you'll contribute Work with Clinical Operations staff and monitor clinical research sites to facilitate study enrollment, confirm the accuracy of study data, supervise the conduct of clinical trials, build effective site relationships, and ensure sites are properly managed and compliant with applicable regulations. Key Job Responsibilities * Conduct site evaluation, site initiation, monitoring, and close-out visits * Completes timely confirmation, visit reports and follow up letters per SOPs * Maintains visit schedule for each study * Develop and implement study-specific monitoring tools to assist CRAs with monitoring activities * Serve as primary contact for managing the relationship with assigned sites * Provide site support for electronic data capture (EDC), reviewing for completeness and consistency and generating and resolving queries during monitoring visits * Meet regularly with PIs at sites regarding issues/concerns with the study * Advise and train site personnel on sponsor and regulatory requirements for study conduct * Review on-site files and records, drug accountability, study supply inventory, case report forms, and source documents for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
