Job Posting Description

The Research Assistant will be responsible for:

Performing a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research, while under immediate supervision.
Assisting in the use of specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment.
Manage a colony of genetically engineered mice.
Developing protocols and performing experiments to model cardiac diseases with induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and genetically engineered mouse models.
Designing, producing and testing gene therapy vectors to treat inherited heart disease.
Maintaining excellent records of results and methodologies as well assisting in compiling and analyzing data.

In order to qualify, you must have:

The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in biology, animal science, toxicology, pharmacology or a related field. A Master's degree is desired but not required.
Prior lab experience highly desired
Experience with mammalian cell culture is required.
Experience with mouse breeding and experiments is highly desired.
Intermediate laboratory skills including molecular biology, microscopy, and use of basic analytical equipment are required.
Excellent inter-personal skills and the desire to learn new skills are a must.

VIEW JOBS Job Posting Description The Wagner Laboratory, based at Boston Children's Hospital, focuses on vascular cell biology, studying the role of adhesion receptors in inflammation and in thrombus formation. The lab is seeking a Research Assistant I who will, under general supervision, perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Assists in the use of specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment. The research assistant will work mostly with mice, combining genetic approaches with disease models. Requirements: * Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry or a closely related field with lab experience and experience working with mice. * Work requires the analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles. * The successful applicant will perform a variety of laboratory tests (PCR, Western Blot, microscopy, Flow Cytometry, buffer preparation, etc.) and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy. * Will work closely with research staff and will maintain records of results and methodologies. Compile and help analyze data, prepare charts, graphs, and results of studies. * Will independently maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner. Assist Lab Manager in the storage and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive and toxic materials. Carry out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols. VIEW JOBS General Summary Working under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, conducts biospecimen processing and analysis using established protocols. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using basic statistics. May perform literature searches under the direction of the supervisor. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join our team studying the causes of and treatments for Inherited Retinal Degenerations (IRDs) in the Ocular Genomics Institute at Mass Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School. IRDs are important causes of vision loss. Genetic therapies such as adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated gene therapy show great promise for treating IRDs. We are looking for a Research Assistant to join a team studying how mutations in a specific IRD disease gene cause vision loss, and testing gene therapies to prevent vision loss from this genetic form of IRD. The successful candidate will learn and carry out a broad range of cell and molecular biologic research techniques pertaining to the study of IRDs. This will include planning and designing experiments, evaluating results and drawing scientific conclusions, preparing results for publications/presentations. The responsibilities will also include shared laboratory management duties, such as overseeing daily operations of the laboratory and ensuring that efficiency and regulatory compliance standards are met.
