Overview Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects.

The Research Assistant I provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves less complex problems in carrying out research projects in a laboratory environment. This position will be in support of the Laboratory of Adjuvant and Antigen Research (LAAR), Antigens and Immunology section within the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP). The selected candidate will perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff.

Note: This site requires that non U.S. Citizens reside in the United States for three of the five recent years. Responsibilities Performs research projects, including writing protocols, collection and organization of data in an accurate and timely manner.

Follows instructions and standard operating procedures and accurately records all experiments performed and assists in preparation of technical reports. Carries our Enzyme linked immunosorbent and PCR assays. Performs general laboratory duties including preparation of media and buffers, orders and inventories supplies, keeps the laboratory area clean, and conducts weekly laboratory safety checks.

Assists in isolation of of cells from human, rodent, or nonhuman primate tissues, and organs.Maintains primary cells and cell lines in tissue culture, assists with protein purification and RNA isolation. Assists in HIV-1 purification. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in life science. Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of basic biochemical and immunological techniques. Well-versed in standard laboratory techniques including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and tissue culture. Knowledge of protein purification, RNA isolation, and PCR will be helpful.

Ability to follow detailed instructions. Good communication and analytical and basic computer skills. Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting. Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
