Job Summary:

The HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences is funded by the National Institutes of Health, and is the largest long-term study of early brain and child development in the United States. The OSU-CHS HBCD site will enroll approximately 300 pregnant individuals and their babies beginning August 2023-December 2025 and will follow the families for 10 years. The long-term goal of HBCD is to better understand how child development is affected by exposure to social and environmental experiences and conditions.

The position will be responsible for recruitment of research subjects, implementation of data collection protocols, and daily operations of the research agenda including data management and retention efforts. This position will focus on recruiting and retaining monolingual-Spanish and bilingual research subjects and supporting bilingual research staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment, retention, and implementation of all study procedures for recruitment and retention, including tracking progress

  • Prepare and present recruitment and data collection progress reports to PIs and supervisor, troubleshoot problems as they arise

  • Participate in retention efforts particularly for monolingual Spanish speaking participants and provide support during research visits

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners that serve and support Latino families

  • Train on HBCD study protocols for data collection, sample storage, and data management

  • Pilot study scientific plans, and data collection protocols including materials and procedures

  • Establish and manage data transfer system ensuring prompt transfer and data safety.

Environmental Hazards:

Possible exposure to hazardous material, hot and cold, strong acids/bases

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry 20 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in human sciences, child development, psychology, health sciences, public health, or related discipline

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience

  • Demonstrated professional research experience that includes understanding of human subjects compliance and regulations

  • Demonstrated experience with proactive problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to take appropriate autonomous initiative to carry out study-related functions with human subjects

  • Requires outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Experience in the Microsoft Office suite of products

  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion to meet the needs of the project, including scheduling participant visits and contacts, as well as meeting project deadlines

  • Possession of valid driver's license by date of hire

  • Bilingual

  • Spanish

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in health sciences, public health, or related discipline

  • Experience working with infants and toddlers, and their families

  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences

  • Demonstrable experience developing, managing, or maintaining research databases using RedCap, or other, similar data management applications
