JOB BRIEF
This position will support a multi-disciplinary, multi-program project is a collaboration between four thematic USIP programs (Justice, Governance and Security; Countering Violent Extremism; Non-Violent Action; and Inclusive Peace Processes) as part of the Center for Applied Conflict Transformation's mandate to generate innovation to improve peacebuilding practice. The position will support a project that is testing and developing innovative computational tools capable of supporting policymakers in more rigorous strategic decision-making processes to manage complex conflict dynamics.
Pay: $14.00 - $14.75/hour
Period of Performance: October 2019 July 2020 (with a possibility of extension)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide research and support for the Applied Conflict Transformation Center's multidisciplinary program on computation modeling, specifically to:
Alongside a technical specialist in computational modeling, the research assistant will support the development and growth of a computational model for a peacebuilding challenge, through data collection, coding, procuring and organizing information, and other relevant tasks;
Provide communications and writing support to multidisciplinary team of Directors including providing summaries, write ups, and notetaking at relevant events for the computational initiative;
Support the project's Director and technical specialist's analytical work by providing research support for publications that may include articles, reports, blogs, podcasts as well as participation in events identified by USIP;
Assist with event planning and execution to ensure successful advancement of portfolio;
Provide research and analysis on thematic areas related to the four disciplines as part of the project, as needed to support the project's other activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Only full-time students from universities belonging to the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area (CUWMA) can be considered for these openings.
Excellent time management, collaborative, and organizational skills required.
Strong verbal and written communications skills required.
1- 2 years related experience required.
Ability to understand and translate complex themes, ideas, and content into analytic units and data.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
