Department Overview
Research assistant for basic science research study to assess neural plasticity in various rodent models. Conduct tract-tracing studies, immunocytochemistry, and behavioral analyses in mice or rats. Analyses of changes in behavior, neuronal morphology, and proteins may be involved. Work with a collaborative team to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms of neural plasticity. Maintain excellent laboratory records and a safe research environment.
Function/Duties of Position
Tract tracing experiments: Perform protocols to trace different populations of neurons innervating different tissues, using rodent models.
Immunocytochemistry: Perform histological procedures and image analysis, including quantitative comparisons between cell types and treatment groups. Use confocal microscope and other laboratory instruments. Includes keeping laboratory in good working order, maintaining supplies, preparing solutions, and assisting other team members as needed.
Rodent behavior: Perform analyses of rodent behavioral responses after various treatments.
Documentation and data management: Maintain complete and accurate laboratory records of study procedures and results; back up data regularly, including images; assist with analysis of results.
