Department Overview
Are you passionate about advancing cancer research and developing innovative in vitro models? The Franca Lab, a dynamic team within the Division of Biomaterials and Biomedical Sciences at the School of Dentistry, with affiliation to the Knight Cancer Precision Biofabrication Hub, is looking for a motivated and skilled research assistant to join our team.
At The Franca Lab, we study the interactions between early-stage head and neck cancers, the extracellular matrix, vasculature and the immune system using 3D cell culture, microfluidic devices and tissue engineering techniques. As a key member of our team, you will participate in research focused on the development of microfluidic devices to study early cancer biology. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the principal investigator, co-supervise international graduate students, interact with the engineers at the Knight Cancer Precision Biofabrication Hub, and tackle challenges independently.
Lab location: South Waterfront - Portland Oregon
Function/Duties of Position
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, bioengineering or related field with the ability to manage basic laboratory operations, including instrumentation maintenance, biosafety, lab orders, inventory and general lab support. A strong preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in microfluidics, organs on a chip, 3D modeling and 3D printing. Expertise with computational biology and analysis of gene datasets is highly desirable. Experience in editing grants and manuscripts is a plus.
