The Research Applications Development Analyst serves a key role in the Department of Research Information Technology's work to advance biomedical research in the College of Medicine. Designs, develops, tests, and maintains full-stack custom software solutions that may cross multiple technologies, platforms, and product owners.

Develops and demonstrates an understanding of user requirements and needs in the context of implementation of the overall software product. Works as a member of a software development team to perform detailed problem analysis and research, identify options, and propose solutions. Works from within an Agile Framework, leverages knowledge of best practices in software development like unit, functional, and integration testing, quality assurance, version control systems, and security to ensure that the proposed solutions address user needs.

Applies functional knowledge of full stack software development including containers, relational and non-relational databases, APIs, and user interface development to deliver software solutions to product owners. Willing to learn and adapt to meet new technological demands. Ensures applications meet functional, technical, and security requirements.

Writes code to meet industry standards that is valid, properly structured, and compatible with specified browsers, devices, operating systems. Supports current applications, monitors application performance, and contributes to a culture of continuous improvement of software infrastructure and its components.

Supports diverse and inclusive work environment consistent with departmental, College, University and Health System mission and values.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required: Experience in Information Technology and/or Research (a combination of both research and information technology is highly preferred). Strong understanding of object-oriented analysis and design, data structures, design patterns, databases and software development.

Experience with programming languages and/or modern web technologies. Knowledge of service-oriented architecture/ web services is a plus. Experience with languages like Java, .NET, Python, PHP, Node.js, etc.

Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies, including test planning, coordination and execution, as well as programming logic and work-flow concepts. Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences and stakeholders, both within and outside the organization. Experience with Azure, AWS, or other cloud providers.

Desired: Experience in user interface and/or user experience design; Experience working in a research environment; Experience working with health or healthcare data.

Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

A Place to Be Proud.</p><p>Responsibilities</p><p>Business Analysis and Support</p><ul><li><p>Create and modify existing templates to clearly document business requirements, business cases, new project requests, and all the functional and non-functional requirements to align business objectives through the strategic application of people, processes, and technology.</p></li><li><p>Develop requirements documentation in accordance with industry standard and NCH IS specific methodologies.</p></li><li><p>Assist in documenting business requirements to provide detailed cost estimates for new Capital requests and operating funded requests. Information Assurance</p></li><li><p>Knowledgeable of and adheres to Children's Hospital policies, processes, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing privacy, security, and disaster recovery/business continuity.</p></li><li><p>Develops, implements, and/or maintains systems following IS Information Assurance policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines and industry standards to address security, privacy, and disaster recovery/business continuity needs to protect Children's Hospital information and resources at established, defined levels.</p></li><li><p>Actively protects sensitive, classified, and confidential information.</p></li><li><p>Uses and accesses systems and information only for authorized purposes and in accordance with security procedures and guidelines to perform job duties as assigned.</p></li><li><p>Maintains individual accountability for security controls and measures (e.g., individual passwords are not shared with other users).</p></li><li><p>Reports suspected security and/or privacy incidents following established Children's Hospital procedures.
