Cadmus seeks a Research Analyst to join its Energy Sector. Research Analysts are expected to conduct primary and secondary research on behalf of Cadmus' energy clients (primarily utilities and administrators of energy efficiency programs). Research Analysts will be responsible for executing research tasks, analyzing the results of the research, and creating written reports on the results.

Research Analysts should have professional or academic experience in the field of energy efficiency or sustainability, in social science research methods, and/or in program evaluation. They should also be highly motivated to perform and learn, be able to work collaboratively and independently, manage assigned tasks and projects from start to finish with minimal input from supervisors, and have exceptional written, verbal, and analytical skills.


  • Work independently to participate in research projects and manage research tasks.

  • Design high-quality data collection tools including interview guides and survey instruments.

  • Conduct telephone interviews and surveys with energy efficiency program staff, utility customers, and other market actors.

  • Analyze survey, interview, and utility program data to identify trends, summarize key findings, and describe the relationship of program activities to program results.

  • Document results for clients through PowerPoint presentations, memos, and reports.

  • Provide administrative assistance to project managers through budget tracking and project planning.

  • Communicate professionally through telephone and email with out-of-state colleagues and clients, in varying time zones.



  • Undergraduate degree in business, the social sciences, environmental studies, or a related field

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience conducting social science research, including interviews, surveys, focus groups, and/or literature reviews.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills using statistical and analytical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R, Excel, etc.)

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Some domestic travel may be required


  • Familiarity with energy sector or utility industry.

  • Experience with energy efficiency program evaluation, design, and/or implementation, a plus.

  • Experience using Qualtrics, Survey Reporter, and/or NVivo.

  • Advanced MS Excel skills.

Additional Information

The preferred location for this position in Boulder, CO but candidates in Portland, OR will also be considered.

VIEW JOBS 4/18/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-17T00:00 Overall Job Objective Under general supervision of the Administrative Supervisor to improve, coordinate and lead the Boulder Public Works Department's internal personnel support programs and processes and the executive leadership support program. These programs include the department's hiring and recruitment program, personnel process management and research and analysis support for personnel proposals, oversight of the support provided to the Public Works executive team, and some special project administrative support. Develops and implements short and long-term plans for programs in conjunction with division, and department work plans. This is a two year Fixed-Term Position A resume and cover letter must be submitted in addition to the application to be considered for this position Duties & Responsibilities 1. Works in a collaborative manner to improve, coordinate and lead the Public Works internal personnel support program, which includes: * Creating, expanding, implementing, and overseeing consistent processes and administrative support across workgroups to streamline department personnel processes, including: * Establish consistent processes and tracking systems for department personnel and staffing requests * Establish consistent processes in support of the department's hiring efforts, including support for job postings, recruitment tactics, interview support and job offer coordination with the HR Department * Collaborate with peer and other administrative professionals on building and implementing the department's onboarding program for new employees as well as establishing clear and consistent processes for the offboarding of departing employees, in coordination with other support departments like IT and HR. * Provide support to managers and supervisors by helping to conduct research and prepare materials and memos for job studies, equity studies, career matrices and other management tools and requests that are sent to the HR Department for consideration. 2. Works in a collaborative manner to coordinate the administrative support for the Department's Executive Leadership Team, which includes: * Coordinating calendaring, meeting, and administrative support for the Public Works Executive Leadership Team * Providing office management-type support for the physical floor occupied by the Public Works Executive Leadership Team * Delegating and working collaboratively with other administrative professionals across the department to provide this support program. * Coordinates arrangements for travel for the Public Works Executive Leadership Team. 3. May supervise or lead the work of other administrative professionals and, occasionally, temporary administrative employees: * Responds to urgent needs as necessary, may include some off-hours responsibility and schedule flexibility as issues arise. * Evaluate existing departmental programs and develop procedure/program innovations and/or improvements as needed; collaborate with other administrative professionals to implement programs day-to-day tasks. 4. Performs administrative tasks, which includes, but is not limited to the following: * Tracks work efforts and and processes like council correspondence, employee engagement results and actions, staff appreciations efforts, and other special requests * Manages the flow of requests/questions and provides information: * Identifies high priority work issues and tasks and coordinates a prompt response. * Understands city policies and conveys accurate information to employees and supervisors. * Responds to and resolves minor issues and complaints. * Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of employee information. * Prepares or oversees the preparation of written reports, materials and correspondence including the development and maintenance of spreadsheets and databases for tracking projects, programs, etc. * Maintains appointment calendars and schedules meetings and appointments. * Works collaboratively with other administrative professionals to support the department's volunteer program, public engagement events, staff appreciation events, and other department-wide efforts. * Coordinates office supply ordering with other administrative professionals; provides office management services to help to present a professional and well-maintained work area; submits work orders for facility repairs and provides meeting and event support like food ordering and equipment preparation * Answers general questions from the public and city employees. * Helps to administer departmental and citywide policies. * Proofreads written materials, such as memorandums and reports, and makes appropriate corrections to content, grammar, etc. 5. Other: * Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city. * Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property. * Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and department policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies. Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field, or any equivalent combination of education/administrative experience. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible administrative, project management or related experience. Minimum of 5 years' experience in customer service fields. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Ability to work appropriately with confidential information. Interest, desire, and ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public and city staff and to provide excellent customer service both in person and over the telephone; must be courteous, patient and personable when working with the public and diverse individuals, even in difficult situations. Proofreading and editing skills, including excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills. Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Strong experience with word processing, database and spreadsheet software. Experience writing professional correspondence as well as reports summarizing data analysis. Ability to develop and maintain accurate filing systems. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision; to prioritize and resolve problems; and to complete tasks while working under pressure in a fast-paced environment with the ability to meet deadlines. Financial, data processing or analysis experience. Experience in planning and organizing projects and programs. Experience in facilitating trainings. Experience working with stakeholders across an organization on program improvements. Experience in Public Works organizations.
