Summary
The mission of the Institute for Social Research (ISR), the premier university-based social science research institute in the world, includes the development, conduct, and dissemination of ground-breaking social science research, as well as the training of future generations of social scientists. ISR research and training is conducted through the efforts of more than 300 faculty and 500 regular staff within five distinct research centers.
The Institute for Social Research (ISR) Director's Office has an exciting research administration position available within the Research Administration Unit. ISR submits over 250+ proposals valuing over $350M to external sponsors each year ranking us among the top campus units. Our research portfolio has awards totaling more than $90 million a year. The individual will be part of a team responsible for compiling and coordinating unit data, conducting detailed review and approval of proposal submissions, Center level support for proposal preparation during peak times, and provide general support to the unit.
The position will report to the Director of Research Administration and will also receive functional supervision from others in the unit.
Responsibilities*
This position's key responsibilities include:
Proposal and award data entry and reporting including data integrity review
Provide detailed institutional review and feedback on PAFs and proposal administrative shells, working with ISR research administrators, including unit approvals
Coordinate and disseminate unit communications to ISR research administrators
Provide excellent customer service, guidance and consultation to ISR research administrators, faculty, students, trainees and other researchers
Create and maintain unit's procedures and processes documentation including unit's electronic files and subdirectories
Provide Center level support for proposal preparation during peak times serving as the primary research administrator
Maintain unit's internal website
Required Qualifications*
We'd like to hear from you if you have:
3+ years of progressive experience in administration and/or research (1+ years of experience for associate level)
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products and Google tools, particularly word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software
Experience with centralized systems for proposal routing, submission, and awards
Demonstrated high quality customer service focus
Attention to detail with high degree of accuracy, consistent follow through to completion and meet high work standards
Able to work independently and meet or exceed deadlines
Able to cultivate strong working relationships with team members and affiliates
Desired Qualifications*
We are especially interested if you also have:
Bachelor's degree in related field
Experience with databases and querying data
Ability to develop and manage electronic tracking systems
Knowledge of common sponsor guidelines
Strong problem solving skills
Willingness to work as part of a team in a fluid environment and proven capacity for learning and expansion of responsibilities
Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication
Work Locations
This position is eligible for hybrid work. It is expected that during the training period, work will be conducted on-site at the University of Michigan Offices in Ann Arbor with flexible scheduling and hybrid opportunities made available within our overall Institute policies.
Underfill Statement
This posting may be filled at the Intermediate or Associate level depending on qualifications and experience of candidate.
Positions at the Research Administration Associate level will be filled with a salary range of $50,000-$64,000
Positions at the Research Administration Intermediate level will be filled with a salary range of Intermediate level salary range: $65,000-$77,000
