Job Description:

The University of Florida CS Everyone Center for Computer Science Education is accepting applications for a Research Scientist (RS) to lead research and development on Computer Science (CS) teacher preparation in collaboration with Center's faculty and staff. This is a 12-month, time-limited, non-tenure accruing appointment for a minimum of 1 year pending funding.

The CS Everyone Center for Computer Science Education ("CS Everyone Center") is housed at the University of Florida in the College of Education. It is an interdisciplinary center founded upon the belief that all K-12 students deserve access to Computer Science (CS)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) education. CS Everyone Center focuses on three broad areas:

  • Availability of CS/AI Education: Multiple entry points to CS/AI education including teacher preparation courses, CS certification teacher exam preparation, microcredentials, and integration of CS/AI education into teacher preparation courses

  • Expansion of CS/AI Education: National engagement and collaboration to support scalability of CS/AI education including development of online communities of practice and state and school district support, professional development, and engagement of a broad range of stakeholders for K-12 CS/AI implementation; and

  • Research and Development in CS/AI Education: Develop technological innovations and advance understanding of research-based practices that promote access and inclusion of all learners in K-12 CS/AI education.

Job expectations:

Works collaboratively with CS Everyone faculty and staff to:

  • Lead research and development on Computer Science (CS) teacher preparation in collaboration with Center's faculty and staff.

  • Ensures that appropriate metrics and processes are in place to measure project performance and progress towards the stated objectives.

  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate research assistants.

  • Ensure that program implementation actions are completed at various levels and across various teams to achieve desired results

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in CS Education teacher preparation

Expected Salary:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in Computer Science Education, educational technology, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in K-12 CS education including professional development, teaching, or other similar experiences.

  • Experience with writing and managing externally funded projects

  • Ability to translate and communicate complex topics in a variety of forums, tailoring communications to effectively fit and influence the targeted audience

  • Agility in making and following up on strategic decisions

  • Ability to plan for long-term sustainability

  • Experience with teaching CS education to preservice and/or in-service teachers

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team structure; ability to be flexible and manage multiple tasks concurrently
