Requisition Summary

Do you want to help shape Peterbilt's future products? The Vehicle Function Definition team is looking for a Requirements Engineer with interest in creating, defining, and launching the next generation of industry leading trucks. Scope of work includes analysis of potential new product designs, evaluation of customer requirements, definition of vehicle and system level targets, defining control function architecture, assisting with HMI requirements, and validation of vehicle level improvements. By engaging early in the product development processes to coordinate new program definition and ensure superior customer satisfaction. This is an opportunity to use your interpersonal skills and engineering knowledge to add direction for future Peterbilt and PACCAR major programs.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Identify and incorporate advanced automotive technologies into PACCAR products

  • Coordinate with Product Planning to understand major program Book of Wishes and identify all customer requirements which cascade into design requirements

  • Collect requirements by interacting with customers and cross-functional teams to define vehicle functional requirements

  • Design and build concept prototypes to verify and elicit requirements

  • Document and communicate functional design and control requirements

  • Work with global teams to deliver common, cost-efficient solutions PACCAR-wide (Up to 10% travel may be required)

  • Track design concepts and vehicle functionality through design and testing phases, and provide support for software development and validation activities

  • Support and provide feedback during Technical, Concept, and Design Reviews

  • Prioritization of projects to fulfill the desired launch dates.

Skills / Competencies

  • Experience with automotive or commercial vehicle networks, such as CAN, SAE J1939 and LIN

  • Proficient using Requirements Management and Systems Engineering tools preferred

  • Knowledge of the software development cycle, Scrum or Agile frameworks, and familiarity of the A-Spice V-Cycle model preferred

  • Experience using IBM Rational Rhapsody, IBM Rational DOORS Next Generation, and IBM Rational Team Concert is a plus

  • Understanding of designing, developing, and validating automotive technologies

  • Knowledge of Scrum or Agile frameworks

  • Experience in User Interaction (UI) or User Experience (UX)

  • Strong technical writing skills and documentation

  • Requires independent judgment and effective decision making skills

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with the ability to prioritize work effectively

  • Creative, quality and results-driven work ethic with the ability to learn on the fly and adapt to change

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, or Mechatronics Engineering required.

The Advance Design team is looking for a Mechanical Engineer with interest in supporting innovative design development. Duties involve interface with the PACCAR Technical Center, PACCAR Global Electric Powertrain Team, Product Planning, Marketing & Sales, and Management to evaluate customer requirements and definition of vehicle level targets that support launching the next generation of industry leading trucks. Scope of work includes working on new development programs, analysis of potential new product designs, employing innovative skills to mature ideas from concepts, problem resolution, and other engineering duties supporting various aspects of product development. Job Functions / Responsibilities * Lead design effort to deliver common mounting and component strategies for the Power Control Assembly Subsystem (PCAS) Components * Coordinate with Product Planning to understand major program Book of Wishes and identify all customer requirements which cascade into design requirements * Support development of Product Description Books (PDBs) for engineering projects, establishing project scope, vehicle requirements, and performance targets * Completion of six sigma documentation in assigned phases of project * Prepare engineering activity status reports and other detailed reporting as directed Skills / Competencies * Knowledge of and/or experience in heavy truck components and systems is preferred * Thorough knowledge and experience with Pro/ENGINEER/CREO required * Experience coordinating prototyping of parts required * Experience coordinating supplier activities required * Experience coordinating pilot activities required * Demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to learn on the fly, and adapt to change * Demonstrate professional and successful communication skills (verbal/written) with strong, effective interpersonal abilities * Applying standard engineering techniques with minimal supervision * Proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and related computer software. * Requires a proactive approach to defining issues and reaching early resolution and consensus. * Act in a professional manner in all contacts with external and internal customers.
