About the Position

The County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department is actively recruiting for a Substitute, Supervising Public Health Nurse to join the Reproductive Health team at the Public Health clinic in Paso Robles. This recruitment will remain open until filled.

The Supervising Public Health Nurse for Reproductive Health has a variety of work and oversight responsibilities related to reproductive health. Responsibilities include supervising the day-to-day operations and two Public Health Aides in the Paso Robles multidisciplinary Public Health clinic, ensuring the County of San Luis Obispo meets all requirements related to the federal Title X and Every Woman Counts grants, and assisting with and maintaining current written policies, procedures, and standing orders. The Supervising Public Health Nurse will be expected to work closely with nurse practitioners, physicians, public health aides, and the front desk manager, as well as other programs located in Paso Robles.

This recruitment may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time throughout the County.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have clinical experience with sexually transmitted diseases, family planning services, and public grant reporting. The ideal candidate should understand and respect patients of all gender identities.

The ideal candidate should have a passion for providing reproductive health services to our community. While bilingual skills are not a requirement for this position, the reproductive health clinic serves a large proportion of Spanish and Mixteco speaking patients.

Knowledge of:

The theory and practice of public health nursing; principles and practices of public administration and program management including program planning, implementation and evaluation; principles of budget preparation and monitoring; principles of personnel training, supervision and evaluation.

Ability to:

Participate in the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures; develop and maintain cooperative work relationships; interpret and evaluate nursing programs; apply principles and techniques of community organization; organize, direct and coordinate program services; accurately analyze problems, develop recommendations and take appropriate action for resolution; utilize computers for basic functions.

Education and Experience

Either A:Four years of experience as a Public Health Nurse

Or B: Four years of increasingly responsible public health related experience, in a public or private healthcare setting. (An advanced degree in public health nursing, or a public health related field, may substitute for one year of the required experience.)

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid California License to practice as a Registered Nurse is required at the time of application and must be maintained throughout employment. A license in a probationary status is a disqualification. Possession of a valid California Public Health Nurse Certificate is required.

Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIAdriver's license will be required at the time of appointment.
