JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Representative, Veteran Affairs

Division: Student Experience

Evaluation Group: Staff

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Assistant Director, Military Strategy and Student Experience

Positions Supervised: N/A

Job Summary

The veteran affairs representative assists with certifying student enrollments, communicates with students about their benefits/eligibility, supports maintenance of records and reports, and collaborates with University departments within and outside of Student Experience.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Assists School Certifying Official(s) (SCO)

  • Works with Veteran Affairs team to counsel student veterans on education benefits, other potential benefits, University programs offered by the Veterans Administration, and eligibility requirements

  • Assists student veterans in applying for education benefits

  • Maintains files on all military students at the institution

  • Collaborates with Enrollment Management and Student Financial Services (SFS) teams through the student life cycle

  • Performs various office tasks, such as ordering and stocking forms and supplies

  • Supports subject matter experts in the Veteran Affairs Center; upholds all applicable federal, state, and institutional policies; performs administrative responsibilities

  • Assists with annual academic report preparation for appropriate federal and state entities

  • Helps in planning/preparing for annual federal compliance audit and executes any needed corrective action plans

  • Escalates issues as appropriate

Service Excellence

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence

  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University's values

  • Provides excellent and professional customer service during interactions with students, faculty, staff, and alumni

Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration

  • Serves as a liaison between the Veterans Affairs Center and academic advisors, Student Academic Support Services (SASS), Business office SCOs, SFS, Admissions, Accessibility and Disability Services, and administrative personnel

  • Assists in resolving problems in relation to military student issues

  • Collaborates with other campus entities regarding veteran events

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience working with veteran affairs preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures

  • Familiarity with veteran affairs policies, procedures, and programs

  • Familiarity with FERPA regulations and privacy laws governing higher education

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including tact and diplomacy

  • Organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all records
