Overview

PIX11 is looking for a skilled story teller that thrives in a fast moving multi-platform environment.

The candidate would have a working knowledge of the tri-state area, working daily with news management, producers and the assignment desk to develop and cultivate stories.

The ability to seamlessly ad lib on the live newscast, as well as cover breaking news, is essential.

The candidate is also expected to be active on social media and produce content for all digital platforms while cultivating sources across the tri-state.

Responsibilities

  • Covers and reports news stories.

  • Contributes ideas for possible stories.

  • Read newspapers and magazines to stay informed on current events.

  • Works with producers, reporters and associate producers on assigned news broadcast.

  • Monitors news feeds when necessary.

  • Answer viewer phone calls and mail.

  • Develops community contacts.

Qualifications

  • Must have BA/BS, prefer journalism/communications major.

  • Prefer individual who has worked as a reporter for a broadcast or print news organization.

  • Prefer individual have a minimum of 3 years experience in news, either in broadcasting or print.

  • Effective broadcast communicator.

  • Effective writer.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Must be able to accept constructive direction and criticism designed to enhance individual's performance.

  • Stays informed on current affairs.

  • Can perform duties and make decisions under extreme pressure.

  • Usually 9-hour workdays, may be required to work additional hours.

This role is within the CNET News team, which writes daily news and feature stories about the technology that's changing our lives and the companies that make it. Role Details: We are seeking a full-time technology reporter. This person will be responsible for helping to lead CNET's daily product news initiative, keeping on top of rumors, announcements and important updates. This person will write, assign and help edit work from a team of four reporters across our tech news, tech product news and tech culture teams. Key Projects: * Cultivate a team of reporters to help build out our breaking news initiatives. * Support coverage during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Mobile World Congress (MWC) and various corporate events throughout the year. * CNET reporters and editors seek out and participate in interviews with high-profile people, such as people who appear in CNET Magazine. Qualifications: What you bring to the team: You have - * Bachelors (or equivalent) degree in journalism, English or writing OR equivalent combination of education and experience. * Minimum 4 years of related technology journalism experience, with broad understanding of popular technologies, products and tech trends. * Demonstrated ability to exercise solid news judgment. * Write clean copy fast. * Work well under pressure. * Craft compelling and concise headlines. * Have a basic understanding of SEO. * Experience working with/leading a cross-disciplinary team of writers. * An eagerness to explain technology to a broad audience. * Good understanding of AP style. You might also have - * Experience covering a competitive beat. * Experience at a top-tier news organization. * Demonstrated ability to cultivate sources and "break" news.
