Repair Technician II

Orlando, FL (Onsite)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Repair Technician II who will play a crucial role in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic equipment independently. You are responsible for monitoring and improving daily shop activities, assigning work plans, and contributing to process optimization.

In this position, you will manage consumable inventories and provide guidance to Tech I technicians. Your experience and expertise contribute to the team's efficiency and success in meeting production and quality goals.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Equipment Troubleshooting and Repair: Utilize your extensive technical expertise to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electronic equipment while adhering to product reference cost standards, customer specifications, and internal processes and procedures.

    Provide expert assistance and guidance to technicians in performing complex repairs, following established ISO procedures, and initiating and organizing training sessions. Act as a liaison between the cell technicians and Engineering during Chronic investigations to ensure on-time delivery and product performance, leading the initial review of returns.

  • Shop Activities Monitoring: Actively monitor daily shop performance to ensure expected results and promptly identify root causes of any issues, implementing appropriate actions as needed.

    Assign daily and weekly work plans that address Customer Delivery, Production Plans, Training requirements, and other company deliverables. Maintain SIM boards with accurate and current information, enabling efficient tracking and management of equipment status, repairs, and blocking issues. Utilize the red bin area to identify problems and escalate them daily as required, coordinating with cross-functional teams.

    Assist in monitoring daily shop activities, helping to identify and report any issues or equipment malfunctions. Follow instructions and work plans provided by senior technicians to meet production and training requirements. Assist in maintaining equipment status records and reporting issues as needed.

  • Process Optimization: Collaborate with the Operations team to identify and implement best practices, lean concepts, and process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve repair outcomes.

    Proactively identify opportunities to enhance product documentation, repair procedures, and operational efficiency, promoting continuous improvement and adherence to industry best practices. Develop a comprehensive matrix for major products and work instructions, standardizing and improving repair approaches to enhance quality and customer satisfaction. Collaborate with the technical team to review material shortages, ensure accuracy in material requests, and explore alternative options to ensure on-time delivery. Provide well-informed proposals for ideal Service Bulletin (S/B) packages to enhance service efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Shop Consumables Management: Monitor and manage the inventory of consumables, including ordering replacement chemicals and ensuring proper disposal of expired chemicals, maintaining a well-stocked and compliant inventory.

    Regularly review the Chemical Cabinet, ensuring shelf-life, proper labelling, and safety storage protocol adherence. Proactively monitor inventory levels of shop supplies and place orders to prevent shortages and ensure uninterrupted operations.

  • Supervisory Role: Assume acting supervisory responsibilities when management is absent to include the following ensuring proper coordination, task assignment, and adherence to protocols.

    Communication: Engage in regular meetings with Repair Line Managers, providing updates on work plans, progress, challenges, and departmental issues to foster problem-solving and root cause analysis. Collaborate closely with cross functional departments to resolve time sensitive issues. Conduct regular team meetings to review KPI performance, weekly objectives, work blockages, and other escalation needs, fostering a collaborative and cohesive work environment.

  • Return to Service Inspector (RTS): Perform the role of a Return to Service Inspector, ensuring that repaired equipment meets all necessary requirements for airworthiness and on-time performance. Review work order packages to ensure compliance with customer requests, quality standards, and regulatory requirements before authorizing the release of repairs.

    Act as the point of contact to resolve all Customer paperwork rejections in a timely manner, aiming for same-day resolution. Review monthly Customer rejection reports to define root causes and develop standardization of the RTS process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with minimum two (2) years of work experience in an electronics repair and/or maintenance.

  • Capable of working flexible shifts including, nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Must be flexible and willing to work any area in Repair or Production, as necessary.

  • Regular attendance and punctuality is required. Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the Thales culture and values. Must be well groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance.

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a record that meets Thales' insurance standards. Must pass a seven (7) year background check and drug test.

Special Position Requirements

  • Requires rotation between all shifts as well as weekend and holiday work.

  • Position often requires ability to work overtime and flexible schedules.

  • Repair Station environment may present elevated noise levels.

  • Must be willing and able to travel both domestically and internationally.
