General Description

Provide technical service and support on scientific and clinical instrumentation within the Leica Biosystems division while adhering to ISO, FDA, and budgetary guidelines with the objectives of minimizing customer downtime and generating revenue opportunities for Leica.

Main responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, modification and/or repair on intricate and critical LBS mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic and refrigeration instruments.

  • Identify root cause of LBS product malfunctions; determine feasibility of repair; provide accurate written estimates; disassemble, replace or repair defective parts; reassemble, calibrate, adjust and certify serviceability of overhauled or modified in order to minimize customer downtime, increase customer satisfaction and generate revenue opportunities.

  • Decontaminate and properly certify instruments, components, and work areas which have been in contact with live human and/or animal tissue, blood, and/or bodily fluids in accordance with Control Procedure Document 7.5.3-4, FDA, and CDC requirements.

  • Develop and maintain a high level of internal and external customer satisfaction.

  • Maintain a high first time fix ratio, with a low instrument turn around time.

  • Provide field service and phone support as needed.

  • Support the warehouse returns department by identifying good and complete returned items including instruments and spare parts/assemblies.

  • Maintain an accurate spare part inventory within the budgetary limits.

  • Concise, accurate, and detailed technical report submission within 24hrs or work completion.

  • Maintain an organized, clean and efficient workplace.

  • Possess a multi product family proficiency

  • Provide inter-division assistance with repairs, upgrades and other repair service activities.

  • Provide ''on the job" mentoring and guidance on instrument repair to new hires and Repair Center Technicians in order to provide them with the skills necessary to perform their jobs.

Work Experience

  • Minimum Experience: Experience 1 Year "Offset by at least" Education Associates Degree

  • Ideal Combination: Education Associates Degree "And" Industry Experience 2 years

Education/Certification

  • Minimum Education: Education Specialized Training "Offset by at least" Industry Experience 2 Years

  • Ideal Combination: Education Associates Degree "And" Industry Experience 2 years

  • ESCO EPA Certification required for Repair Center Engineers working with cooling systems

  • Annual Blood Born Pathogen Training and Certification required for daily safe handling of biohazard instruments, components, consumables and workplaces.

  • Instrumentation specific certification by a Master or Qualified Trainer (MT or QT) as needed at the discretion of the Supervisor, LBS Repair Center

  • Danaher compliance certification

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form.

Ability to comprehend complex scientific issues as relate to LBS equipment.

Good Oral and Written Communication Skills.

Ability to travel.

Ability to guide lower level personnel with instrument repair.
