Job Purpose

Provides direct field service and support to customers globally. Coordinates and resolves customer issues timely and with a sense of urgency.

Note: This position is based in the US and on call 24/7. Must be ready to travel at all times.

Education / Training

  • High school diploma/GED; some vocational / technical /

business school preferred; may be offset by experience;

  • 6-8 years of experience working with Heavy Equipment

as a mechanic and a thorough understanding of how to

use service test equipment, conduct repairs and interrupt

SPN/FMI Engine Codes; understanding of schematics and

circuits for mobile heavy equipment;

  • Bilingual
  • English and Spanish a plus.

Key Job Elements

  • Works with customers 24/7 on troubleshooting and

completing repairs on equipment manufactured and/or

sold by Progress Rail Maintenance of Way Division;

  • Provides warranty service support and onsite hands-on

repair as required;

  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical, hydraulic,

pneumatic, and mechanical issues by phone and in the

field;

  • Supports Engineering with equipment design issues

and/or underperforming components. Submits

Engineering Change Request forms as appropriate;

  • Preforms and installs equipment upgrades or retrofits as

required;

  • Provides maintenance and operational training to

customer base both internally and in the field;

  • Prepares and submits all reports in a timely manner;

  • Responsible for collecting payment information and

submitting it in a timely manner;

  • Supports and contributes to Service Department goals

and objectives;

  • Coordinate's customer visits, part sales with Aftermarket

Teams and works with customer representatives getting

parts to correct location;

  • Inspects and estimates equipment field repair cost as

appropriate;

  • Travel is required both Domestic and International as

necessary;

  • Supports factory assembly teams, rebuild projects, and

machine inspections;

  • Performs additional job-related duties as assigned;

  • Ability to understand and adhere to all Company and

Customer Safety Policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience repairing and troubleshooting heavy

equipment electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and

mechanical systems and circuits. Air conditioner repair a

plus;

  • Experience with performing standard equipment service

and maintenance to include: engine oil and filter

changes, hydraulic filter exchange, hydraulic pressure

setting air filter exchange and standard adjustments;

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral

required. Must be able to listen and communicate

efficiently with customers, suppliers, service technicians,

and internal employees. This includes the ability to

diagnose and help repair problems identified in the field;

knowledge of products and mechanical principles.
