Renewables Senior Accountant, II

JOB SUMMARY

The Renewables Accountant position is an integral part of a team that performs financial accounting for the wind and fuel cell facilities of Southern Power Company, an SEC registrant. This position will have responsibility for various income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow accounting tasks, as well as tasks to ensure the financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP, FERC, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.

In addition, this position will provide support for Southern Power's various SEC reporting requirements. This is a hybrid position within the Southern Power Comptroller's organization and is located in Atlanta, Georgia.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform activities associated with financial accounting for various key areas for Southern Power Company and its subsidiaries, including monthly journal entries, analysis of financial transactions and results, account reconciliations, and other accounting duties as required (may include acquisition related accounting).+ Ensure that all internal controls surrounding responsibilities are adequate and functioning.+ Assist in the preparation of accounting information that supports or may be included in monthly management reporting.+ Provide and assist in the preparation of accounting information that supports or may be included in Southern Power's 10-Q or 10-K.+ Prepare quarterly and annual external audit request as requested, ensuring timely response and maintenance of good working relationship with the external auditor.+ Promote innovation and create workflow efficiencies in a dynamic environment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education+ Bachelor's degree in accounting (or related field) is required.+ Advanced degree is a plus.+ CPA license (or equivalent) is preferred.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • 5 or more years of experience in accounting or related fields is required.+ Proficiency in applying GAAP and accounting principles is required.+ Experience with and a strong understanding of month-end close, journal entries and account reconciliations is required.+ Experience with and strong understanding of analysis of financial transactions, financial statements, and internal controls is preferred.+ Experience with the Oracle Cloud is preferred.+ Working knowledge of the utility industry and the FERC chart of accounts is a plus.+ Possess:
