This role will lead Duke Energy's onshore and offshore wind development efforts, working across departments to develop cost-competitive renewable projects. This role will be accountable for and lead the development of Duke Energy's offshore wind lease (Carolina Long Bay) and lead onshore wind development efforts within certain regulated service territories. This individual will be responsible for developing project sites through the full development cycle, from site identification through notice to proceed. This position requires a broad understanding of the wind industry landscape, strong development, financial, and technical skills, proven negotiating skills, and an ability to balance competing factors in a dynamic market environment. They should be knowledgeable and skilled in offshore and onshore wind development, interconnection procedures, federal and state incentive programs, electricity market pricing and risk-management, policy engagement, land origination, financial modeling, and energy market analysis. They should have an understanding of key renewable PPA terms and conditions, project development and permitting, drivers of project economics, and the ability to optimize project performance. They will lead development projects with significant accountability for performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project developer for Carolina Long Bay offshore wind project, this leading and meeting all Bureau of Ocean Energy Management ("BOEM") development and timeline requirements, development/submittal/execution of Site Assessment Plan/Construction and Operating Plan, Progress Reports, management of third-party contractors or consultants, regulatory filings, preparing and submitting interconnection applications, prepare and manage annual development budget, maintain and update project financial pro forma modeling, prepare and submit proposals into RFP/RFIs as issued, severe as external interface with associated stakeholders (regulators, BOEM, communities, etc.), and maintain enterprise view of offshore wind development in the US by monitoring industry progress, status and changes of offshore wind projects, supply chain and regulatory proceedings.

  • Lead development and/or development services for onshore wind development, including develop and execute project development strategy and plans, site control acquisition, site investigation and environmental studies, interconnection, local/state/federal permitting, securing long lead time equipment and negotiation of construction agreements.

  • Ensures business goals and objectives are accomplished through effective negotiations, communication, and work monitoring.

  • Prepares thorough and accurate documentation related to any business development initiative.

  • Develops positive working relationships using effective oral and written communication skills while representing the company in a positive and professional manner.

  • Strives to continually improve renewable business development processes, procedures and performance.

Basic/Required Qualifications

Renewables Developer I

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Environment or other related degree

  • In addition to required degree, minimum four (4) years relevant work experience

Renewables Developer II

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Environment or other related degree

  • In addition to required degree, minimum five (5) years relevant work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing offshore and onshore wind projects.

  • Experience and understanding of BOEM development regulations and timelines.

  • Advanced problem solving, project management and implementation skills.

  • Advanced written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proven negotiation experience with associated skills and results.

  • Financial and/or energy modelling experience and fluency with financial concepts (IRR, NPV, time value of money, etc.).

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.

  • Office with periodic site visits.
