We have a rewarding opportunity available on our Renal/Metabolic Care C5 unit at Methodist Hospital! This 26-bed unit provides 24-hour care to acutely ill patients. This unit is a medical unit that cares for patients with a variety of medical diagnosis which could include renal disease, diabetes management, wound management, pain management, and vascular access issues supporting patients varying from young adult to the geriatric age group. This unit is the designated unit for providing all Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) for Methodist Hospital.

This unit also embodies an additional unit, B5, a 5-bed End of Life Care unit that is dedicated to the care of patients at the end of life, including both palliative and hospice care.

The Patient Care Intern Progression Program helps student nurses on their pathway to becoming an RN while gaining hands-on patient care experience. IU Health provides these future nurses with learning, mentorship, and progression opportunities as they work toward their degree. In this role, you'll work alongside other healthcare professionals to strengthen your skills in patient care, decision-making, and critical thinking.

The Patient Care Intern I (PCI I) works under the direction of the registered nurse (RN) as a non-licensed team member. As a non-licensed team member, the PCI provides care to designated patients and supports the patient care team. Job duties include observation of the registered nurse, provision of activities of daily living, mobility assistance, mobility assistance, continuous observation including suicide prevention, and ensuring the patient's surroundings are clean and orderly.

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent years of experience is required.

  • Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.

  • Requires PCI to be actively enrolled and have completed 1 semester student nursing at an accredited nursing education program that is accredited by a national organization. For example, the Accreditation Commission For Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

  • Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

  • Requires knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.

  • Requires ability to apply the organization's personnel policies and procedures.

  • Requires up to date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.

  • Requires proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Requires ability to maintain concentration when subjected to frequent and varied interruptions and variable noise levels.

  • Requires ability to organize tasks and attend to details.

  • Requires knowledge of procedures; equipment; software and standards related to patient care activities that non-licensed role perform (ie. PCI, PCA, PCR).

  • Requires ability to perform physically demanding; repetitious movements.

  • Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
