What You Will Do:
This position is responsible for final coding of outpatient accounts types for Emergency Room and Ancillary and Therapeutic services for community hospital sites. This position is responsible for accurately assigning and sequencing diagnosis codes using ICD~10~CM in accordance with advice from Coding Clinic and ICD~10~CM Official Coding Guidelines. This position is accountable for utilizing 3M coding products including encoder and groupers for Medicare reimbursement and other third party payors, and for internal Advocate business and quality purposes. This position is accountable for accurate abstracting of selected clinical and non~clinical information to create a comprehensive database of information for billing purposes, internal data management, and external reporting of data.
Codes diagnoses utilizing a computerized encoding software system and completes abstraction for clinical data and non~clinical data elements for community hospital sites. This position is responsible for reviewing all documentation in the patient record for accurate and complete code assignment in accordance with the current International Classification of Disease, Clinical Modification, ICD~10~CM.
Performance of other duties.
Contributes toward achieving the team goals for Shared Coding Services
Maintains current knowledge of ICD~CM~10 and maintains required continuing education credits and certification(s).
What You Will Need:
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential or Certified Coding Specialist~Physician based (CCS~P) and Completion of coding certificate program from recognized community college (typically 20 semester hours of college credit courses) ~or~ HIM degree graduate with RHIT or RHIA credential.
Achieve satisfactory score on Advocate's coding test.
Attention to detail (such as interpretation of clinical data including medical terminology and disease processes)
Analytical skills for abstracting of clinical and nonclinical data
Ability to interpret regulatory and payor rules and directives concerning coding
Ability to work successfully and independently in a remote, home environment.
The ability to maintain an ergonomic workstation in a remote work environment while protecting patient confidentiality and maintaining Advocate owned computer hardware and software.
Must be able to manage computer usage issues using protocols for resolution.
Must be able to work independently, maintaining productivity and quality standards.
Able to travel to other hospital sites, corporate settings and seminar locations.
Able to work under stressful conditions while maintaining
professionalism and manage multiple completing priorities
Work will often require flexibility and meeting tight deadlines
Ability to make independent decisions in problem solving
Able to work well on a team
Ability to achieve CEUs and maintain coding certification
