As the Field Underwriting Specialist, you are responsible for the following:
Responsibilities:
Delivers profitable outcomes on complex niche business through effective risk selection by:
Analyzing, selecting and profitably pricing business and determining terms and conditions of coverage that are adequate competitive for the market.
Utilizing a consultative selling approach by assessing the needs of the agent and the insured and formulating mutually beneficial solutions.
Examining inspection reports, location, risk, financial and other available tools and reports to accept or reject new business.
Communicating with Risk Control for inspections, follow ups and service needs for insureds.
Escalating referrals in a timely manner.
Handling or providing support for complex casualty exposure and/or more challenging states: risk, regulatory environment, and CAT exposure.
Adhering to service expectations and regulatory compliance by the timely release of renewals, non-renewals and conditional notices.
Accountable for achieving key performance indicators and the overall health of their assigned distribution partners within the portfolio including:
Developing and furthering successful relationships with assigned distribution partners within the portfolio by
Having regularly scheduled, pre-renewal and portfolio review calls.
Meeting voice of the customer guidelines.
Traveling to distribution partner offices.
Pipelining and actively seeking new business opportunities.
Consistently meeting our voice of the customer standards.
Managing risk portfolio by identifying and addressing growth, rate, retention and profitability concerns that are not tracking with portfolio objectives.
Coordinating with distribution team to resolve issues, concerns or conflict and oversee change management.
Proactively growing and expanding distribution opportunities and relationships within the assigned territory.
Communicating regularly with portfolio team members on health of assigned agencies and market conditions that could impact the portfolio.
Cultivate a High Performing Culture
Modeling the standard for service and responsiveness.
Mentoring support staff and and lower level underwriters throughout their career development.
Identifying talent development and training needs, facilitating training for the niche, to continually develop underwriting acumen and critical thinking skills.
Conduct peer audits and approve underwriting decisions (LOAs) for lower authority levels.
Assist in the training of new hires and internal promotions by providing continuous mentoring and feedback to foster successful employee development.
Interacts regularly with portfolio team members regarding workflow, referrals, and market conditions.
Reviewing, mentoring, and approving referrals for lower authority level associates.
Leads or acts as SME for organizational initiatives or projects.
Provide backup support for Portfolio Management Leader in their absence or during times of increased workload.
Perform other related work as assigned.
