Position Summary:

Assist the Store Manager and Assistant Manager, to optimize Joybound Thrift Store's sales, using retail best practices in the areas of merchandising, customer service, staff and volunteer training, and customer service.

Lead by action and example to advance a culture of positivity, professionalism, trust, transparency, empathy, and excellence at Joybound

Principal Duties:

  • Ensure "all-star" customer service for customers and donors. Encourage donations and extend Joybound's gratitude to donors and customers alike.

  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment.

  • Ensure accurate cash management, accurate daily deposit and reporting of cash receipts generated by store operations.

  • In absence of cashier, perform cashier duties as defined in cashier's job description.

  • Welcome, train and supervise Thrift Store volunteers and provide tools as needed for them to complete assigned tasks.

  • Coordinate with Joybound's Thrift Store Manager and Volunteer Services Director to retain volunteers, to identify roles for volunteers and to assist in developing volunteer job descriptions.

  • Manage all thrift store operations in the absence of store manager or on shifts assigned.

  • Ensure that all store signage is in compliance with Joybound's current logos, branding and organizational message.

  • Provide uninterrupted break and meal break "relief" to other store management staff

  • Coordinate acquisition, presentation, and pricing of all donated merchandise to maximize customer service and sales revenue as assigned.

  • Report customer feedback to store manager to increase understanding of market needs and opportunities for improvement of store operations.

  • Report the need for maintenance of all building functions at the store location (i.e., security, electrical systems, property management, refuse disposal and cleanliness) if problem occurs on assigned shift.

  • Always promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals.

  • Always treat people and animals with respect, contribute to effective teamwork, promote staff cooperation, and foster public relations beneficial to Joybound.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all information.

  • Comply with all Federal, State and local safety regulations and laws, as well as Joybound policies and guidelines. Follow established procedures governing safe work practices; and perform duties in a manner that assures the safety of oneself and others.

  • Ensure that supervised staff and volunteers comply with all Federal, State, and local safety regulations and laws, as well as Joybound policies and guidelines.

  • Perform duties in a manner which encourages attainment of goals, contributions and business for Joybound and its programs.

  • Promote teamwork, communication, and cooperation with all other departments including in store Animal Care personnel (Adoptions and Foster depts.)

  • Follow safe driving practices, obeying all traffic laws at all times when driving for Joybound business purposes.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Work environment includes constant exposure to animals and animal allergens.

  • Push/pull moderately heavy objects up to 25 pounds.

  • Lift and move objects and animals weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances and to humanely restrain animals when necessary.

  • Kneel, bend, stoop, squat, reach above and below shoulder level, grasp and turn objects, stand and/or walk frequently and repetitively throughout each shift.

  • Flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist.

  • Tetanus and rabies inoculations are required or must be waived.

  • Sit for long and short periods of time using a computer and/or cash register.

  • Drive an automobile

Experience, Abilities And Qualities Required:

  • Prior supervisory and retail experience; and ability to manage store operations independently.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of retail and customer service techniques.

  • Good organization and planning skills.

  • Effective interpersonal and team-building skills.

  • Comfortable and skilled in working with a culturally diverse staff, volunteers and donors.

  • Effective communication skills to ensure effective store operations and professional customer service.

  • Pre-employment background check screening required.

Hours:

Part time: This position averages twelve (12) hours per week, as needed, including weekdays and Saturdays for relief shifts.
