SAFETY: Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action. May be required to handle hazardous materials.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor and direct marine and railroad traffic, raising and lowering the lift bridge as needed (subject to certain locations only). Give trackage rights for Maintenance of Way gangs and B&B personnel. Protect personnel/equipment during train movement. Operate railroad radio, marine radio, and phones. Communicate with Dispatching Office and Trainmasters as needed for proper train movement. Relay information from the USCG to barge traffic about restrictions at the bridge.

Handle small amounts of office supplies. Basic janitorial duties in keeping work area clean. Prepare various reports and forms.

TYPING REQUIREMENT: This position requires successful candidates to take and pass a typing test, administered through BNSF. The minimum net typing rate required for this position is 25 wpm.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 18 years of age or older.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • BNSF is a drug-free company and employees will be subject to random drug tests.

  • Willing to submit to an employment, criminal and driving background review.

  • Available to work in the geographic area indicated.

  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English.

  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).

  • Available to work a 40-hour work week subject to overtime and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds without assistance.

  • Possess a valid driver's license.

  • Able to distinguish among colors and recognize changes in sounds.

  • Able to learn to identify, interpret and use hand signals from near and far and visually judge the speed and distance of moving objects.

  • Able to perform basic functions on a personal computer (PC).

  • Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling; including use of hand tools.

  • Able to perform work on uneven surfaces; frequently climb ladders and on/off equipment.

  • Able to work at various heights above the ground and over water including working in a suspended tower and walking on a bridge to perform routine inspection and maintenance.

  • Able to work in conditions that include loud noise and fumes, work on and around heavy and moving machinery, bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time and use hand tools.

  • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.

Pay rates are listed at entry rate $176.68. Entry rate is 85% of full pay rate, to increase 5% per year until at 100%.

TRAINING: Company paid on the job training is provided.

RELOCATION: Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

WORK CONDITIONS: Extreme all-weather conditions; un-even surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 60 days

TRAVEL: Minimal

SHIFT: Shifts are governed by union agreement subject to seniority. This position is classified as "on-call", and must be willing to work various shifts (days, afternoons, nights, swing) and fill in for vacation and unplanned vacancies. There is no guarantee of minimum hours per week.

DUES: Per the collective bargaining agreement, union membership and monthly dues are required.

Forklift Operators move pallets of product from our production lines into our warehouse and from our warehouse onto trucks. What you'll do in this role: * The Warehouse Operator is responsible for facilitating the movement of supplies, materials, and products throughout the facility in a safe and efficient manner. * Adhere to plant safety rules and programs as it pertains to self and all other associates, including performing audits, safety suggestions, and participation in safety and rotation of jobs. * Safely and efficiently operate forklift trucks in a fast paced environment around other forklifts, production machinery, and pedestrians. * Complete daily inspection checklists, fuel changes, and tag out process for repair of powered industrial trucks if needed. * Responsible for the movement of palletized and non-palletized packaging materials, raw materials, finished goods, display units and pallets within the facility, to and from the production lines as well as loading and unloading trailers. * Accurately complete and understand required paperwork for internal transfers, bills of lading, supply counts, changeover data, overage/shortage and damage reports, component verification sheets, and others as needed. * Operate dock locking mechanisms, and chock and block trailers. * Operate plant inventory control systems effectively and efficiently such as computer mounted and handheld scanning equipment. * Support production and quality requirements by supplying materials and documentation needed for rework or trials. * Communicate both verbally and written within the warehouse department, shift to shift, to production and other supporting departments. * Continuously look for methods, procedural changes, processes or equipment modifications to improve efficiencies and communicate appropriately. What you'll need to be successful: * Minimum one year experience operating a forklift in a fast-paced manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred. * Must be able to do basic math functions such as adding, subtracting and dividing. * Ability to follow directions provided in verbal or non-verbal format. * Strong communication skills. * Demonstrate a willingness to learn multiple job assignments. * Must be a team player and promote teamwork. * Available to work any shift and overtime as needed.
