SAFETY: Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to safety concerns and taking appropriate action. May be required to handle hazardous materials.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor and direct marine and railroad traffic, raising and lowering the lift bridge as needed (subject to certain locations only). Give trackage rights for Maintenance of Way gangs and B&B personnel. Protect personnel/equipment during train movement. Operate railroad radio, marine radio, and phones. Communicate with Dispatching Office and Trainmasters as needed for proper train movement. Relay information from the USCG to barge traffic about restrictions at the bridge.

Handle small amounts of office supplies. Basic janitorial duties in keeping work area clean. Prepare various reports and forms.

TYPING REQUIREMENT: This position requires successful candidates to take and pass a typing test, administered through BNSF. The minimum net typing rate required for this position is 25 wpm.


  • 18 years of age or older.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English.

  • Available to work a 40-hour work week subject to overtime and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds without assistance.

  • Possess a valid driver's license.

  • Able to distinguish among colors and recognize changes in sounds.

  • Able to learn to identify, interpret and use hand signals from near and far and visually judge the speed and distance of moving objects.

  • Able to perform basic functions on a personal computer (PC).

  • Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling; including use of hand tools.

  • Able to perform work on uneven surfaces; frequently climb ladders and on/off equipment.

  • Able to work at various heights above the ground and over water including working in a suspended tower and walking on a bridge to perform routine inspection and maintenance.

  • Able to work in conditions that include loud noise and fumes, work on and around heavy and moving machinery, bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods of time and use hand tools.

  • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.

Pay rates are listed at entry rate $176.68. Entry rate is 85% of full pay rate, to increase 5% per year until at 100%.

TRAINING: Company paid on the job training is provided.

RELOCATION: Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

WORK CONDITIONS: Extreme all-weather conditions; un-even surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.


TRAVEL: Minimal

SHIFT: Shifts are governed by union agreement subject to seniority. This position is classified as "on-call", and must be willing to work various shifts (days, afternoons, nights, swing) and fill in for vacation and unplanned vacancies. There is no guarantee of minimum hours per week.

DUES: Per the collective bargaining agreement, union membership and monthly dues are required.

We have taken additional measures to ensure proper sanitation of our facilities for our front line associates. This position will be responsible for performing various jobs associated with the formulation of lawn/garden products and management of the plant utilities and hazardous waste system. What you'll do in this role: * Monitor plant utility operations: water treatment, Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems, air compressor systems, and steam and condensate systems. * Assist with the formulation process. Work includes, but is not limited to, the batching process, transferring of products to storage tanks, and entering production work orders. * Unload tank trucks and rail cars of bulk raw materials. * Work closely with planning, lab, and production teams to assure the availability of quality products when required. * Assist in production line changeovers. Work includes, but is not limited to, providing rinse materials, totes, hoses, antifoam, and piping connections. * Stage raw materials (drum, totes, bags, super sacks) to the formulation process using automated equipment such as, but not limited to, forklifts and drum haulers once training is complete. * Follow prescribed directions to calculate the amount of chemicals needed to formulate the volume of product specified in the production schedule once training is complete. * Assist with the inventory of raw material process and management of all plant waste streams. Will work with the hazardous waste streams once properly trained and qualified. * Follow all safety procedures and practices and use proper safety equipment for each specific job assigned or area involved. Perform safety inspections or checks. * Must actively maintain and improve housekeeping in the department and assigned area. * Completes special projects or other duties as assigned.
