PURPOSE: This engineering position leverages expertise in product design, coupled with skills to be acquired through training on the application of relevant reliability methods, to continuously improve the design and validation of new products and subsystems, changes to existing products, critical manufacturing and supplier processes and reliability modeling and prediction. The position requires limited supervision, conferring with management on unusual matters.
Receive training(provided as needed) in organizationally relevant and practical reliability engineering methods such as FMEA, DRBFM, SRM, DFR, LDA, ALT, RCA, HALT, DFM/DFA, FTA, Robust Design, POF modeling, SPC, DOE, DVP&R, etc., and associated software tools.
Actively participate in design for reliability and manufacturing early in product development.
Effectively use and contribute to our reliability center of expertise, supporting bodies of knowledge in reliability methods and resources, to achieve significant product reliability results.
Engineer safe, high quality, cost effective, ergonomic, and environmentally responsible validation methods for component, subsystem and final machine qualifications.
Instruct, oversee and assist with work of reliability test technologists.
Collaborate with reliability colleagues, R&D, Manufacturing, Production, Supply, Quality and Service Departments to establish and achieve reliability objectives.
Interact as a reliability liaison to test labs, consultants, suppliers, sales representatives, etc.
Oversee setup and configuration of test environments and systems under test.
Improve efficiency and effectiveness of validation plans and methods based on warranty feedback, use of test acceleration techniques, new technology and compliance regulations.
Assist in DFMEA, PFMEA, DRBFM, hazard analysis and DVP&Rs.
Work on warranty, scrap and cost reduction using reliability engineering tools.
Employ lessons learned from RCA, FTA, FMEA, Warranties etc. to systemic improvement.
Identify and address extreme failure modes using methods such as HALT, ALT and analysis.
Assist in development of design guides, design review check lists and general machine FMEAs.
Develop predictive reliability and correlation models bases on warranty, test data and POF.
Standardize document formats; generally apply solutions in one area to other applicable areas.
Establish and support corporate strategic reliability related projects; substantiate benefits.
Review progress and perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, Electrical, Mechanical or Material Science preferred
Minimum of five years engineering experience
Experience in root cause analysis and problem solving
Experience in Six Sigma, product test and specification preferred but not required
Knowledge of reliability and statistical analysis practices beneficial but not required
Ability to perform hands-on work
Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
