Job Overview

We are looking for a qualified Vehicle Engineer who will strengthen the RG (Reliability Growth) operation. This position is responsible for directly supporting the successful operation of specific test vehicles running in the RG fleet, and also has general reporting and oversight responsibility for some activities occurring throughout the RG operation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support to Reliability Growth fleet. Responsible for vehicle operation and failures, including but not limited to: Standard Test plan (route / load), maintenance, inspections, driver sheet review, verifying complaints, updates, creating work orders and failure/fault reporting.

  • Perform statistical analysis for the purposes of target setting or failure rate investigations, utilizing RG as well as Field Warranty data as needed.

  • Interface with multiple areas of the company (Design, Manufacturing, Quality, etc) to communicate vehicle status and report issues. Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

  • Support Engineering with root cause analysis for reported failures.

  • Coordinate Product Validation Requests (PVRs). Work with requesting engineer, support procuring and installing parts, develop pass/fail criteria, and report progress. Coordinate on-vehicle activities with shop and plan via work order management system. Bundle on-vehicle activities with intent to maximize vehicle on-road availability. Track these PVR requests for the RG Team overall, and be able to provide overall group-wide status reports as needed.

  • Provide engineering technical assistance to personnel within and outside of the department. Manage high number of projects and update project information including due dates. Actively pursue advancements in tools related to testing and measurement.

  • Proactively maintain a transparent environment that fosters efficiency, a high state of morale, and teamwork. Fulfill ISO requirements.

  • Bachelor's of science degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred OR an associate's degree with 1 year of related experience OR 4 years of related experience required

  • An attached resume is required

  • Support RG/vehicle needs during the morning driver shift at ~7am is required

  • Heavy truck knowledge of Daimler Trucks North America product lines preferred

  • Team player with a resilient, positive attitude and attention to detail required

  • Understanding of engineering processes & downstream impacts required

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required

  • Ambitious, authentic and goal oriented, able to work under pressure with high work load required

  • Be assertive, support strategic direction, show strong social skills, and be collaborative in daily activities required

  • Knowledge of heavy truck repair & service preferred

  • Knowledge of HDEP and Cummins engines/ATS preferred

  • Proficient with computer SW including MS Office, PartsPro, ViewCad, Manager , DAVE Tool, & PVE Portal preferred

  • Experience with Diagnostic tools (ServiceLink, Cummins InSite, Drumroll, WABCO Toolbox, ) preferred

  • Strong aptitude for both mechanical and electrical systems, including diagnostics/troubleshooting preferred

  • Experience with system and vehicle integration preferred

  • Experience resolving field and customer issues preferred

  • Experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems preferred

  • Working understanding of statistics, with some applied experience required
