The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for reliability data analyses, reliability prediction models and growth plans, test program plans and execution, and supplier reliability qualification in support of new product development, working closely with product development teams. He or she will also have responsibility for conducting and coordinating failure analysis and root cause determination on reliability issues on deployed products. This engineer will work with cross-functional teams in engineering, manufacturing, technical support and field service as well as our supplier base. This is a corporate-wide position in which the engineer will work on multiple product lines across several different business units. The position is based in Somerset, NJ, but will require support of other US locations through web meetings and some travel. The successful candidate will have experience in reliability engineering for product development using standard analytical tools and systematic approaches, be able to clearly communicate with and provide guidance to product development personnel who do not have reliability expertise, and have a passion for improving product reliability.
Develop reliability allocation models and growth plans to meet product reliability requirements, including MTBF, MTTR and system uptime. Complete preliminary reliability predictions for new products.
Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) with engineering for new product development and product improvement programs. Provide expertise and guidance to design engineers
Develop Reliability Testing Plans and recommend Design Verification Tests (DVTs) to engineering to address high RPN components and subsystems, and system-level MTBF predictions, to demonstrate meeting the MTBF and other reliability requirements at the desired confidence levels
Participate in Engineering Design Reviews of products, systems and sub-systems to provide guidance and recommendations to engineers on design advantages for improved operational reliability
Work with engineering to provide reliability requirements to suppliers for critical components and sub-assemblies. Review data from suppliers and provide guidance to engineering
Monitor new product reliability testing and analyze results. Provide recommendations on any changes to testing protocol. In some cases, provide direct assistance on specific reliability tests. Update reliability growth plans, allocation models and predictions and provide feedback to design engineering.
Review field Beta test data on new products and compare to prediction models. Identify areas of concern; inform design engineering and make recommendations for improvements
Analyze data using systematic, industry-standard reliability techniques and tools such as Weibull, ReliaSoft, Relex, and Bellcore
Perform failure analyses and root cause determination on released products using 8D, DMAIC or other proven methods working with field service, engineering and suppliers. Identify systemic issues and provide feedback to design engineers and/or suppliers for incorporation into new product development and product improvements
Prepare reports, diagrams, charts documenting reliability issues and make recommendations for improvements, using FRACAS or other proven methodologies
Participate in Corrective Action Boards as required to address product reliability issues
BS Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability) or equivalent
Five+ years of Reliability Engineering experience for product development, within capital equipment manufacturing (OEM) or semiconductor preferred
Experience and expertise in completing FMEA's/FMECA's, performing reliability predictions, and creating reliability growth plans
Experience in developing test plans using HALT/HASS and other accelerated life testing techniques
Demonstrated proficiency in Statistical Analysis techniques
Experience with 8D, DMAIC, FRACAS or equivalent methodologies
Adept at working with cross- functional teams, both within the organization and with external suppliers or contractors
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written and verbal
Experience in an engineering role working with electronics or mechanical devices
Proven experience and capability in reliability engineering software using Weibull, FMEA, DOE (ReliaSoft, Windchill, Relex, Bellcore)
Proficient in MS Office applications and working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred)
Able to travel up to 10% of the time to Veeco and/or supplier locations; mainly domestic, but some international travel possible
Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) preferred
