Reporting to the Manager of Compression West, this position is responsible for providing engineering support to field teams, engineering department, construction, and management to ensure the safety and reliability of compression facilities and prime movers; and for providing support for the proper design, construction, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems for compressor stations and related facilities.
This position is located in Maitland, Missouri and will provide support to the ANR Pipeline system south west main line (SWML) from the Oklahoma/Texas panhandle area to northern Illinois. Alternate facility locations central to the SWML could be considered for the home location. There are 14 compression stations within this pipeline segment. A variety of reciprocating integral engine/compressor units are installed at these facilities along with a few turbine driven centrifugal units. The successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge of the installed equipment. The position provides support to all mechanical equipment in the compressor station. On occasion the position may also be required to provide support at other locations on other pipeline systems owned by TransCanada including the nearby Northern Borders system.
Reactive Maintenance: Reliability Engineers are engaged and provide support on day to day issues at their assigned compressor stations;
Provide sound engineered and cost effective solutions to urgent problems such as;
Compressor startup problems;
Coolant or oil contamination;
Gas conditioning drip gas, water, dirt ingestion;
Station piping problems (support, vibration, excessive pressure drop, etc.);
Auxiliary system malfunctions (including ESD);
Identify, scope, estimate and engineer 'break fix' projects to repair failed systems, machines and/or components.
Identify, scope, estimate and engineer Capital and maintenance projects to provide long term solutions for facility defects and systemic issues;
Provide diagnosis, support repairs and perform the root cause analysis for significant failures and Abnormal Operation events.
Provide operational and maintenance recommendations based on:
Oil and coolant analysis;
Equipment Analyst performance and vibration test results;
Enterprise Analytics notifications (remote condition monitoring system);
Conduct borescope inspections and vibration testing.
Compliance Related Tasks
Verify adequate capacity of pressure limiting and overpressure protection devices;
Provide code interpretation services or coordinate same for issues and installations with regard to compressor stations;
Assist with PHMSA audit preparation and response;
Provide support for facility audits to insure compliance with Company Standards, Policies and Procedures, and governmental and industry codes.
Other Technical Related Support
Design Standard development;
Operations Supplement development;
Provide expert witness testimony in various forums regarding compressor operation and engineering issues.
Project Delivery Support
Provide facility expertise throughout the project scoping and design process including participation at 30%, 60% and 90% design reviews;
Technical support for project team during facility construction and commissioning activities;
Approve pipeline test data reports;
Provide spare parts requirements.
Other Duties as Requested
Perform gas loss calculations;
Develop project specific blow down and purge plans;
Provide subject specific on-the-job training;
Provide compressor related information/data to a wide variety of stakeholders;
Provide mentoring for the field teams in accordance with the established procedures of the Technician Qualification and Operator Qualification (OQ) programs; may include performing Operator Qualification evaluations.
Qualifications and Education
Have previously demonstrated a focus on safety;

Must possess effective analytical skills;
Must possess human relations skills to effectively operate in a team-oriented environment with a willingness to support team objectives;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work closely with field teams and Management, and coordinate work with other appropriate technical resources;
Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization;
Must be able to handle rapidly shifting priorities and multiple projects concurrently, requiring resolution of complex problems in stressful situations;
Education / Experience
BS or advanced degree in mechanical engineering;
7 - 10 years industry experience preferred;
In-depth knowledge of reciprocating and turbine drive compressor units and ancillary equipment.
This position requires candidates to:
Have and maintain a valid driver's license;
Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing;
Be subject to hazardous conditions including escaping gas, adverse weather, heights, lifting, and cramped conditions
Be available for overtime, extended work hours, and call-outs as needed;
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.
