Replacing coal with sustainably produced wood biomass fuels is widely recognized by governments, researchers and NGOs as a cost effective renewable energy option, rapidly reducing lifecycle emissions of carbon dioxide and emissions of other harmful pollutants associated with energy generation. Enviva has been supplying wood chips and wood pellets to customers in the United States and Europe since 2007. The company owns numerous six wood pellet manufacturing facilities throughout the Southeast in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida and owns or contracts port facilities in Chesapeake, Virginia, Panama City, Florida. Enviva is currently developing additional facilities and ports to support its rapidly expanding sales.

Role Summary:

The Reliability Engineer - Conveyor Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert for conveyors used throughout the pellet making process and product distribution for multiple manufacturing sites and port locations. This scope of work will include various conveyance types (chain, drag, and belt conveyors) as well as conveyor structures and all sub components and materials (e.g. bearings and grease). This specialist will be the key resource in leading root cause problem solving analyses, developing counter measures and working with engineering and local maintenance teams to implement actions that reduce unplanned downtime.

Key Deliverables:

  • Using the Four Pillars of Operational Discipline and the Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) framework this position is responsible for (5) key deliverables

  • By manufacturing site and port, develop and maintain maps of all conveyance equipment that categorizes by type/variation/application, identifies failure risks, and prioritizes actionable needs (e.g. PM improvements, replacement).

Position Summary This is the specialist level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. This position is located within Power Quality, Reliability and Integrity (PQR&I)/Planning in the Carolinas and is responsible for engineering and in-depth technical support in the areas of Distributed Generation. Responsibilities * Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: * Serving as the subject matter expert and providing technical support for all Distributed Generation projects and studies. * Collaborating with the DG Program Manager and Study Engineering team to deliver technical support to project owners throughout the process of evaluating the DG project interconnection. * Ensuring that key regulatory interconnection standards related to timelines, and communications, among other criteria are achieved. * Facilitating direct communication and customer support to DG project owners related to required regulatory communications and other key technical options and milestones. * Providing mentoring, technical guidance and engineering staff development to DG staff, Contract Engineering Support, and Distributed Energy Technology (DET) * Development and oversight of work plans, processes, training, and best practices to implement DG programs or initiatives * Performance of DG studies, and review of studies by other staff, with respect to specific jurisdictional requirements for effective interconnection to the grid. * Active participation on special assignments, including representation of DG among other organizations within Duke Energy * Liaison to Distribution Standards, Transmission, R&I, Asset Management, Capacity Planning, DPAC, etc. for Distributed Generation- related issues * Field support for distribution design organization to approve engineering design decisions * Outage restoration support * Working Conditions * Corporate office or plant environment * Basic/Required Qualifications * Bachelor of Science in Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program, OR state registration as a Professional Engineer (PE), OR a Master's degree in Engineering in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering * Minimum of eight (8) years of engineering experience * Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) Desired Qualifications * Skilled in engineering theories and principles * Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations * Ability and willingness to travel regionally * Experience and demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others * Demonstrated effective team work skills * Demonstrated strong computer skills * Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day direction while maintaining performance expectations * Proficient in principles of project management * Experience in the utility industry * Understanding of basic principles of Power Engineering, Power system analysis and symmetrical components * Background in Distribution system reliability * Background in Distribution Maintenance programs * Knowledge of distribution system electrical design and operation * Understanding of basic principles of power system protection theory, practices, and application * Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical power systems * Strong knowledge and understanding of protective relays, reclosers and application of distribution protective devices * Working knowledge of utility financial practices * Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds * Knowledge of distribution tools and technologies Specific Requirements * Valid Driver's License Travel Requirements 5-15% Relocation Assistance Provided (as applicable)Yes Represented/Union PositionNo Visa Sponsored PositionNo Posting Expiration Date Saturday, December 8, 2018 All job postings expire at 12:01 AM on the posting expiration date.
